WTF...Has anyone ever heard of Cantons???
Sorry to disagree -- I used to sell Canton -- wonderful speakers -- we once installed the Pullman 4-6-tweet combo (talk about mid bass AND imaging!) in a client's car using floor pods and door mount. They were not the same as MB Quart (or for that matter Magnat) -- Quarts have the oversize Aluminum Tweeter -- Canton used regular sized Titanium Tweeter.
Here is a pic of the 10 6 2 set I am about to install.
Will let you guys know how it sounds. I will probably try both the 3 way biampable passive and try all active to.
Someone told me that the parts used in the passive really suck. I dont know enough to comment. Here is a pic... at least it looks good hah.

I have the RS3.22 set which has the 8/5/tw combo. The 5s are a little big for how I want to do my KPs. If I can score the MBQ4s for a decent price and they mate with the 8 and tw sonically then I am in business. Otherwise I have an excellent alternate just in case and will save the Cantons for another car
Adam - Seeing as Tim is God of the Installers and I am the False God of Audio we see each other all the time. It's like a club

Oh - AAAAAAA, as for your passives...
What I see is all mylar caps and air core coils for the mid and tweeter - exactly what you want.
For the woofer they went to an iron core coil which is OK and certainly saved room on the board and a buch of cost as this will be the highest value inductor. The electrolytic cap is probably on the woofer and will be across the line - which is fine.
Overall a good crossover.

yeppers, Canton is a very very nice speaker. i haven't found anything that matches it for the price. and btw, the best sounding car i've ever heard had one of the 4"/tweet combo. the imaging was really amazing! dead on centre and way over the hood!
that's why i got them myself!
i doubt anyone here would be unhappy with them (well, maybe Adam...)

I heard Cantons in an automotive environment twice, once in 1990. In 1990 they were smooth detailed and a little etched (the tweets and the windshield were not playing nice) but I found it to be a similar sound to the MBQ though not as much HF energy but about as much detail. Weakness: a lack of warmth, but that was an install choice as well. All in all it was a very good set for not much money. The images above tell me they have definitely gone up market but have probably retained the classic German detailed and precise sound.
The stories listed above sound a little like Coustic as well (under rated). Both have made their markets by price and performance.
