3 10s - 2 12s - 1 15???

best choice for what?
in the ideal situation the combination with most cone area would be the loudest. Is that what you were asking?
this is given you have a proper amount of power to feed the combination of subs with the most cone area. if you dont have enough power all of the above will be about the same.
if you are doing this in the Caliber and trying to compete i'd suggest going with 2 12's or even maybe 2 10's and leave yourself room for a nice, loud box.

okay yeah i know i should have been a little more specific, i was basically thinking, with the same amount of power being used in all three combinations.
and yes which would in theory produce the higher SPL
so basically like this, say im using a single 3000rms amp i can wire any of the above setups to the same impedance, is one going to be louder then the other?

let me give you an example.
say you have the 3000 watt amp.
now you also have a pair of 10's rated at 1500 watts each. so you get 3000 watts in power handling and 3000 watts in amp power.
if you add another 1500 watt 10 inch sub to this combination it probably would not be any louder. cuz now you have the same 3000 watts in amp power but 4500 watt in total power handling, which you cant feed and it becomes useless.
now, if you were to compare a pair of 10's vs. a pair of 12's using the same power, the 12's would be slighly louder. you'd see it on the meter, but probably wouldnt be able to tell by ear.
BUT if you have an ample amount of power to properly feed all the of the possible combinations, in theory the one with most cone area would be the loudest one.
dont know if you plan to compete or not, but if you are i'd go with 2 12's, or even 2 10's.

okay thanks! thats pretty much what i figured and also felt they should be pretty close because those combinations are all allowed in the same class... and i know that with out the power to run them extra drivers arent always going to be worth it. i guess im just working on deciding what size to move to once things get serious, but thats why i go hound norm all day every day hahaha
and im going to compete but nothing to serious to start, im building a box for SPL this week and norm is going to help me with getting it tuned and everything, we have the in car freq. so now i just have to get building and re building hahahaha and because of the limited room in the rear of my car with the seats up, even 2 12's would be pushing it.
