Aeroports v.s. sloted
I took Fluid Dynamics
Yes, as air passes through a smaller passage, velocity increases but pressure proportionately decreaes due to pressure loss. This is why small ports get restrictive: too much velocity and too much pressure loss. As for slot ports, round is better due to less boundary loss against the wall of the pipe. A square pipe will have slower moving air in the corners and is not as efficient. And with a slot that has a very high width to height ratio, your losses increase. A rule of thumb is have a max ratio of 4:1, but that comes from the ventilation duct design world.

[/qb]
Ok then... next question
(to keep the thread going)
Why not 8" or 10" ports?
Why not have a box that takes up the entire storage area of your jeep with a little baffle to hold a 12" sub?
Basically I'm just wondering where the point is that it doesn't help any more to have a bigger port. [/QB]
ahhh.. but there is! i have seen ppl use a single 8' areo port, and do well with it., guys in finland make there ownports like that out oif metal, and flare them etc. so anything can be done, and hey.,.. lord knows i've got some 6, and 8' ports being made for me right now to!
