Am I getting too old for this?
Well I did my install in my winter beater (which I have been driving all summer long). I installed the smallest amp that I own in it.
It is a HiFonics Gemini vii. 4 x 50 watts
I'm running 2 channels to all my interiors like doors and dash. so that's like 6 speakers.
Then i'm running the other two channels to 4 8's free air under the back deck / rear window.
The system sounds great, even though I have no eq or processors in it.
Just using the deck and the amp (which has a xover built into it).
The system is LOAD and it rocks. I have all channels running at 2 ohms and all is great. It's just that it's actually too loud for me at times.
The highs are pearcing and the lows are pretty good for 8 inch subs running free air. P.S. it's a vw jetta 1993 yes a box but it runs well, yet gutless hence the GL edition. Gutt Less hehe.
So my delema is what do I do with the dozens of monster amps that I have if this pewny amp pumping pretty good at my ear drums.???
Maybe I should just keep them for my kids or sell them or even keep them for my grandkids. Please note that I'm still in my 30's so i'm not that old.
What do you guys and gals think./????

HAHA - I woke up this morning thinking of a similar thing. I find that my Xtant 50watt/channel pumps out enough juice for my entire system and I have a great PPI 125x4 or 500x2 that I just don't think I ned anymore. The wife's truck is set up with a few amps that is more than adequate. I have a few other amps and subs just lying around. Do I get rid of them or set up the system again with more power???
Ahh shucks - we are never too old! Only too broke for this sometimes

Yeah I hear ya.
well i'm doing an install this weekend in a car that just wants a new deck and replacement of stock speakers 4 5x7's. Really basic system for this guy.
Anyway, I just bought another amp last night off ebay and almost bought a new ppi a1200.2 yet lost on the auction. hehe Wife said i was luck that i got outbid.
I might sell something soon who knows.

haha, my z 300's will be the last to go buddy.
They just make too much power.
I still don't get it. They are rated at 150 per channel but damm sound like 500 per channel.
Thanks for the offer anyway.
hehe.

Too old?
If it's too loud, your too old? I think that's how it goes. I personally believe there is never too much power. Remember, double power is 3db louder, quadruple power is 6db louder... Massive power does not make a system that much louder but it certainly gets better. More power means better dynamics, better control, less noise and a host of other benifits when it comes to sound quality. If your ears are being pierced, it is probably distortion caused by too little power. My favorite systems have used multiple amps specifically a separate amp for each side. This can tighten up the imaging like nothing else. All that being said, the only way you can have too much power, is if you can't feed your amps. Power makes power so bump up those alternaters and start adding those batteries.
you are never to old to enjoy music

I think those were the Ulysess.
The Gemini's are only 2 ohm stable on paper.
I have not gone below 2 ohms yet with it.
No distortion just loud front end i guess.....
Hey I just decided I'm not old..!!!!!
I'm going to install some of my monsters soon....

I've come to the conclusion I'm getting to old for the massive stereos. Not that I don't enjoy it but it's nice having a trunk and just cruising around. Plus when I had my setup in the car no one would ever allow me to turn it up past 1/2 so I have all this equipment that did sound pretty amazing... and never got to use it because it always seemed like someone was riding with me. So why not just switch from 2 large subs/amps and just put in one... that's my plan. Still have a nice set of components up front, and I'll reduce to maybe 1 12" sub and 700 - 1000 RMS for power. Still bigger then alot of people but alot smaller then before
