db drag Q?
I am new to this stuf and i was thinking of attending the next db drag in my town, ottawa at the lynx stadium the 28th of july however i am new to all of this and i have a couple question! I am wondering what class or division i would attend whit the following setup 03 alero, 2 10"infinity kappa perfect, 1 mono alpine amp (MRD-M1001), 4 gauge phoenix gold wiring kit, vented box, 1 farad cap the rest of the car is stock (alt, battery ect). My second question is do i even have a chance whit this setup in which ever class i would be put it or this will be a wast of their time and my money? also i read a bit on the db drag site and it says i have to play for 30 sec... what kind of music or what song should i play ... a bass tester? a song whit lots of bass like the 3 6 mafia, late nite tip? or if you have any suggestion it would be appreciated. Usualy a play my music of my ipod but is their rule on this or is the quality of the sound better on a cd? anyways any tips for the competition or whatever would be apreciated also ! thx

2 10's and one amp and one batt in the stock location will put you in street A.
it says for 30 seconds, you have 30 seconds total to hit your highest number, you dont actually have to play it for 30 seconds.
my suggestion for what to play is when your there tell whoevers running it you dont have any material to play, and someone will find you the db drag cd, play a sweep your first round, and ask them what your peak frequency was, then on your next run, run that frequency and it should be your best score.
in the world of db drag, its not uncommon to see 150 db in street A, will there be people there doing that, mabey, i have no idea of the area, who is there, and who will go.
you might do all right, you might not. your not wasting anyones time by going, were all trying to encourage more people into this sport. the more the better.. but be warned, you might get hooked on the SPL bug...lol
its always a good experience to go, hang out, and ask some of the people doing higher numbers for helpfull advice/tips, most people are more then willing to give you a hand when your new to the sport.
go, have some fun, try to learn something and see what you can do, dont feel bad if someone beats you, its all in good fun.

It's never a waste of time or money, it's all about having fun! When I started I had 1 15" in a trunk with 300 watts, I did decent my first show then I got hooked. You should go and compete and talk to people, get advice, ask lots of questions (but just remember not all advice is good advice)
All of the experienced competitors use test tones, the tone will depend on your box, car, etc - the only way to know for sure is to test test test. Most new people to this use music, the more knowledgable ones use a sweep. I'd recommend getting some mic time before the show to find this out, if you can't do this use a sweep.
If you are doing a dbdrag you have a 30 second run, in that run it takes your highest score (if for 2 seconds you hit a 135 then thats your score) it does not average or anything you don't need to go for the full 30 seconds.
Look for SPL Inc or Team 2Loud4U at the show, if they are there im sure they will help, they are very friendly
I hope this helps

The event at the stadium is being held with nespl and not dbdrag. With your setup you'll be in the rookie class which is made for beginners to get to know the sport and help you start out and see if you like it.
If you do go come see me. I'm in the rookie class also, and I'll go have a look at your setup and give you some pointers. They should have some cd's for sale there for $10 which are almost all bass with lots of sweeps to help get your score up. I'll be in a red subaru forester.
We have a good (small) group in and around Ottawa and are always trying to get more people into the sport. Bring your friends too. They'll enjoy it also.

just so you know, its not legal to drive around with ear plugs in.
also, if your system is to loud for you, what do u think everyone else thinks of it? (not tring to be a dick, i love my music loud, but earplugs?...common)
every car is diffrent, as well as every setup. you can have 2 exact same cars with the exact same equipment and box and everything the same, and one might be like 2+/- db diffrent. not every car is built exactly the same.
but 2 15's on 1000 watts, id say ull be between 120 and 150 db.....good luck man, have some fun, db drag is fun, and addictive.

I agree with chrisb ... your not wasting your time nor your money !!! it's for fun and if you win or lose don't matter as long as you learned something and had fun !!
Look i went all the way to fort wayne indiana and the guy i had to face at finals in this 3x event couldn't break 150 and he still beat me cos i had problems ... just goes to show you that anything can happen!!
But even that i got beaten i still had a blast and met some great people ... so it's not all about wining!
