Earthquake Amp ... WTF???

I just got my new red PHD-5000W Earthquake amp today and installed it.

Measured it on my multimeter and oscilloscope to compare it against the readings from my RF 750S.

I have to say I'm disappointed it.

It can't even deliver 50V with no load without clipping, while my existing RF can deliver 63V with a 4ohm load without clipping.

What gives???

I get 96v a/c without clip on the earthquake amps...at no load. I run them 1/4 strapped!

why do you care how much voltage comes out with no load??? whats the point?!?

measurements with the 4 ohm load like the RF amp?

i am also confused as to why u measuring the voltage???? is that the only thing u are measuring?

i think u need an spl meter, not a volt meter.

bring by both of the amps and your set up. for $50 we'll do a full, in car power out put and spl test for both amps.

lessy, i agree.

but you can gain match your amps that way, it is almost impossible to measure voltage with a 4 ohm load unless you use a BIG *** resistor (4 ohm) not a speaker. He is probably using the old "concept car audio" way of measuring watts or the "phieoix gold" way"

(ac volts) squared / the impedence load = peak watts

it does not compare to using a clamp and a meter to find out the true power out...

I'm running it at a 4ohm load.

It's rated at 1500W RMS into 4ohms and 3000W into 2omhs.

I bought it so it will pound harder than my RF right now which is running at 900W @ 4ohms, and be able to handle a 2ohm mono load when I get a second sub and still put out 1500W to each.

I care what voltage comes out of the amp, because voltage is what drives the current through the coil, and makes the speaker move.

If you're familiar with ohms law, you'll know V^2/OHMS=WATTS.
This is not negotiable, this is a law of physics.

You can take two amps and measure their voltage output (preferrably with a load) and determine roughly which one is more powerful than the other.

Whether or not it's stable down to a specific ohm level and can put out the required amps to match the volts without burning out, is another story.

50v*50v/4ohms=625W (12.5 AMPS) - 1 SUB
63v*63v/4ohms=992.25W (15.75 AMPS) - 1 SUB
50v*50v/2ohms=1250W (25 AMPS) - 2 SUBS (625W each)

Regardless of voltage measurements, it just isn't as loud as my RF amp and won't go louder without clipping or distoring at the peaks of the wave enough to make it start sounding ugly..

I'm sure the Earthquake would do better with a low impedance load...

The law of physics also states that the electron flow travels through the NEGATIVE, but we all know thats not applicable in car audio...

I recommend you listen to what the people are saying and not try to defy them with your laws of physics, these are the loudest people in Canada I think they know a little more than yourself about what you should be measuring.
