over 1k rms is still over double rated I wouldn't do it, but like I said its your choice

It also depends on how often your going to have it cranked.

so it aint recommended to double the rms..
so if the sub is rated @ 500 rms, put an amp that is rated @ 500 rms too?

is it me or do alpines tend to blow alot ive known 2 people with them, one blew and my cousin had 2 and one side the face blew off and all u see is the voice coil bumpin

i don't understand why people buy equipment rated for a certain power range, then decide to over power them, and expect there to be no problems. If you want to put 1kw into a sub, then buy a 1kw sub. If you think that the engineers designed a good product, then you must have some faith in them to have figured out what the limits are in their product...they friggin designed it and are telling you that the max rms power is x. Why would you expect it to perform with 2x or 3x. Unless you're into extreme competition, and are willing to take a chance on your equipment, stay within the range!
