Fibreglassing the inside of a box?

Just an update on my current project..
I have a new respect for anyone that works with fiberglass.
I made MDF rings for my 12's just to raise my speakers out a bit from the box, after fiberglass and some bondo i got the box face plate looking the way i wanted it to.. So I Proceeded to paint, after puting the paint on i find it looked better in primer..
I would have taken a picture but it looks like hell, so im gonna get some vinyl and cover over it, im sure it will look good once covered.
And i still have to glass the inside of the box.

standing waves inside an enclosure cause cancelation resulting in loss of output... has anyone here actually tried filling their car/truck with incense smoke to see the air flow from their sub system? I wouldnt really recommend this in a stock vehicle...works better in an extreme application

Actually, you can have standing waves in a sub box... caused by distortion.. it is worthwhile to try and minimize them...
changing the inside of the box will change the frequencies that stand and how they interact... but in this case, I don't think its going to do anything... generally you use polyfill or whatever for attenuation....

Rounding the inside corners may indeed help SPL but it isn't due to the elimination of standing waves. If anything, the last place you are going to get a standing wave is at a corner [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]
And MDF does not "breathe" fast enuf to be of any concern to an audio system. Feel free to cut a puck sized blank, jam it in your gob, and try to breath through it. Oh yeah - make sure you try to breath 30-60times a second [img]tongue.gif[/img]

Too much resin can actually hurt spl.. [img]smile.gif[/img]
And anyone that has any knowledge of spl what-so-ever knows that every car and box are differnt..
things may make a difference with one but not another..
trial and error is the key..
theory is all fine and dandy until you realize that 80% of the time it does not work.. so that's where the trial and error comes in..
