Has anyone ever seen an SPL car go up in flames?

why are you so stuck on this 'wire causes fire' thing? cmon you can be that simple minded my friend.
in an spl install a fire can be caused by anything, literally. anything from an alternator, a bad battery going bad and blowing up, a high powered amp mulfunctioning, a subwoofer coil shorting out and causing an amp to blow up which can cause fire, a deck blowing, a cap blowing up, a fuse/breaker melting in place.
I have personally seen a batcap literally explode in a vehicle with perfectly done wiring, the thing just went BOOOOOOOOM and set everything on fire....
I have seen 4 amps just light up like fireworks when they werent even on and set the entire rear compartment of a vehicne in flames....
you will probably say that this is all very unlikely and there is no reason for it all to 'combust'........yes, there is no reason but it does happen!
so yes, faulty wiring can cause a fire, and so can 20 other things!

Well if you don't want amps that just spontaneously combust, just stay away from Earthquake! So in your opinion you should ignore all safety procedures in all cases everywhere since something else could go wrong? I don't understand why you wouldn't want to limit the chances of something bad happening?
Let me ask you a few questions.
1. Could you afford a few feet of split loom?
2. Would it take you longer than 5 minutes to put in around the firewall hole?
If you answer yes to 1 and no to 2, why wouldn't you do it? And please do answer the question? Give me one reason not to do it.

Earthquake?? lol that has nothing to do with anything.
what safety procedures are u talkinga bout? are you still goin on about jagged hole in the firewall? what about all the other things that can cause fire in an spl install??? like batteries/batcaps blowing up?? no this is not a reason to ignore all the safety procedures but my points is that all the safety procedure in the world do no guarantee you will not have any fires 100%!!
there are many potential sources of fires, half of which can not be prevented by a safety procedure. all the split loom in the universe would not stop a batcap from explodiing in a trunk of a vehicle as i have seen with my own eyes.
yes you think that hole in the firewall should be more safe, i agree that it should. however it is not possible to get it much safer. the hole can not be made much bigger due to hoses and such that are attached to the other side of it. the hole is not really that jagged, i could not get a better pic b/c that area is really hard to stick your head into. the jagged edges of the hole are actually bent outwards into the interior of the vehicle, u obviously can not see that in the pic b/c of all the wire in there.

DWVW just forget it. He did the install the way he wanted to. It's his car, his gear, his fire. If you think it has a chance of catching on fire it was nice of you to point that out and bring it to his attention. But now that he knows, stop bugging him about it.
If it bugs you this much, maybe you need to talk to someone at home about it LOL.
Just forget it and move on.

Actually prolifik is probably talking about my batcap blowing up. The install was fine and there was nothing wrong with the wires either. This happened almost a year after it was installed. It turned out that a cell had exploded.
