let's sum up what we have learned so far

Set the gain on your amps so the subs are still linear and not flopping around
do u use a level to determine when the subs are no longer linear and are approaching the flopping region?

don't turn the volume to 40/40 keep it at about 3/4 volume.
u do realize this would totally depend on where his gain is set, right?

Underpower makes you distort.
Rock ON Ray, solid fact there dude lol

as for powering the subs, you sholdnt have anything to worry about if they are wired correctly.
since when does sub wiring effect power handling? he didnt even mention what and how many coils he has.

lol dont forget to warm up your subs before you burp
i think u forgot to mention that the battery, amps and caps should also be properly warmed up at all times.

take these pointers and live by them!!

by what i said for wiring the subs correctly i meant more of not going too high or low on the resistance ie not running at 16. i guess i should work on punctuation

but yes box design and placement makes a world of difference, one of mine ended up hitting best facing downwards on some 2x4s haha

What? That doesn't make any sense to me. How can underpowering a subwoofer be bad? Because am I right by saying that when you turn down the volume you are lowering the watts that are going to the sub which means at lower volumes you are underpowering the sub. So whenever the volume is turned down it is bad for the subs? Doesn't make any sense to me so if someone could explain it would be greatly apreciated.

i think they mean that if your amp is not good enough for the subs then the subs will try and pull more watts out of the amp than the amp can handle leaving the amp to struggle and make the sub distorted......

DONT LISTEN TO ME !! lol .. that was a stab in the dark ... was i close to right? lol

lol not really. good attempt to, u get A for effort

reason underpowering CAN cause distortion is stupid people. people who get a sub thats 1000 rms with an amp thats 250 rms and then they wonder why it 'dont pound' since its a 1000 watt sub. they go and crank up the gains on their 250 watt amps, crank up bass boost and open crossovers nice and wide. then they go to their deck and crank up the volume. sure it sounds loud but what u are hearing is distortion.
u can underpowper if u do it smart with a nice and clean signal.

undepowering = distortion is like saying if u have a Lambo and drive 40km/hr it will break. underpowering is like having a cavalier and pushing it up to 300km/hr.
