Question

How come I keep popping subs?

And the odd thing is,I don't do it in comp,it's always after the fact..
One day I fried a Kicker listening to eurotech...
Another day fried another 2 listening to Motley Crue......
The Sony's..dont remember what I was listening too..
Can some explain to me how and/or why I am frying sub after sub?
I have tried turning down the gain on my amp, turning down the bass level on my deck,I even turned down the setting on the crossover, but LBKC said I had it to low,he readjusted it and everything seemed fine. The things take a $hitkickin in comp(my little Kickers held up to a burp on a ZR1000),but they wont take everyday use.. I have had it thought that maybe my deck is putting out too much distortion.
Your thoughts??

first thing first, the bass setting on your deck should be ZERO!!!!!!...after that, lower your gains...i can guarantee they are too high...then, just have some control over your volume finger.

What if I have the bass setting at lets say -8..the lowest my deck will go...??

the last one went with the volume at a lower level and everything turned down...gains,levels,etc....

0 on the bass is ok...what deck do you have? im assuming your gains should defenetly be no higher then half...if your sub blew at low volume, the damage was probably caused before this.

The voice coils would either bake solid or I would get a voice coil rub(ask the guys who tossed them first yesterday...they all had that"OH GOD!" look when they checked them out)...

Something that I have been thinking about over and above the fact that the subs were underrated for my system,is the idea that LBKC brought up..Maybe I have had the deck going into clipping?..you thoughts?

I know theres going to be a few remarks about this next line, but here goes....

I bought a couple of those new Sony Xplode pentagonals from Best Buy yesterday after the Thumps fried(yes,guys..I kept them..sorry to disappoint you)..anyway..

These things are rated at 1200 watts each max.wattage.After getting a couple technical difficulties taken care of,I did one run with them and hit a 139.8.Now,after that,I turned dow the amp, turned down the bass on the deck and got it to a point where it just added a bit to music(with a little help from Rob of course(yes Rob..ok...I do like my music loud....LOL)..

On the trip home, the only thing that came to my attention is that the amp got warm, but I feel that this may have something to do with running a 2 ohm mono load on it.I never had any probs at even higher volumes listening to Andrew WK(seems to have a lot of distortion added in).

All that said now...your thoughts as to what I have been doing wrong...what I can do to avoid it happening again(besides getting rid of the Sony's)...

Oh yeah. The amp is a US Accoustics 2200 Series II...200X2...If that helps..

Thanks for any help you guys can be...

And a big thanks to Rob for all has done already..Good Luck Man...You deserve the trip to Worlds....You've earned it.....
