With my single S12L7 I have hit as high as 154.0 and as low as 139.7. As you can see, there are huge descrepencies between all mics out there as far as I'm concerned. In one DB drag event, there was a 6 db difference between each lane ! How could that possibly be fair?

Meh, I guess we just have to tough it out sometimes.

most likely there probably wasn't a 6 db difference between the mics. you can't expect to hit the same at the same show when you go there and play you car in the parking lot, and then you do sweeps in the lanes. and you show your buddies how awesome your system is by playing it. when ever there is a drop its for a reason. heavy hitters usually don't play their system until they get to the lanes only so that they can save their battery power, and not heat up equipment. a true db run should be abouta 2-3 second burb(or a roll as some guys like it) and about 25 seconds of quiet, and then a 2-3 second burp again. it's all in wht you do in the parking lot. if you volts go down 2-3 volts cause you played the crap out of your system, then you amps will go up and heat up everything twice as bad, or more. then you score will go down, 2-3-5-8 db depending on how hot you heat up that sucker.

At Audiothunder, we put 8 of the new dB Drag mics in my car and tested them to see how much difference ther would be between them. We had Wayne Harris' and Scott from Team RFL's meters hooked up to the mics and they were all positioned in the car at the same time.

There was about a 1/2 dB difference between them all, which could have been caused by their positioning. As stated earlier, it's all relative... the decibel format is a man made format and each meter manufacturer has their own way to measure that decibel level. We as competitors have to decide which format is valid in our eyes, but suffice it to say that when at a competition, we're all playing on the same system so it's fair for everyone. Sometimes there's "anomoles", due to a broken component or a pinched mic wire, etc... that can cause erratic readings, but essentially they're all relatively accurate to their own level of measurement. We as competitors just have to decide on what "meter" or format we want to compete on.
