from what I have personally heard best choises are DD Z1a, Stetsom 7kw and AB 500.1 although that is tough because people using more powerful amps usually don't share their results. Also I am sure the atomic 7K is alright but unfortunately it is so long its going to be a pain. I own the DD its a great amp, I have used the Atomic 5k and it was OK and the stetsom 7kw and it was better than the atomic 5k

from my personal experience, the best amp ive ever used was the cactus 5kw, after that was the z1, then atomic 5k, then it was pretty close between the ab 500.1 and xxx6500. Although given the choice betwene the 2 (500.1 or xxx6500) id take the 500.1 for consistancy's sake. the 6500 is not a very consistant amp on a 12v system. Tom, i dont doubt the stetsom 7kw is better than the atomic 5kw lol 7kw>5kw :P

since we are on the best amp topic here are my top spl amps. Im only going from what i know and the amps i've used.

Earthquake D10 - good starter amp, good value.
American Bass 500.1 - good power, picky amp.
DD Z1 - Good step up amp, very good $$$/power ratio.
Cactus 5kw - picky amp but very solid power
DD Z1A - Most expensive out of all the ones listed, also the strongest and the loudest.

I just have to ask... I'm totally unexperienced when it comes to SPL and the like but something doesn't quite add up... Years ago I had a couple buds that were running simply a single HCCA 2100 and they'd hit low-mid 150's without issue. RMS output @ 12 volts was a rated 1600 and we know that was way low.. I'm just unable to reconcile similar numbers in my mind today and people are looking for 5000-7000 watt amps????

Can someone shed some light on this for me? I'm not trying to offend or be a smart a$$

We use a different meter from the older ones. The older meters were reading up to 10db more than the current models, so the 150 from back then would be low 140 today.

The Z1 outputs are perfectly fine. It was the input that needed repair.
