Are they worth the initial investment, or am I better off to apend that money on something else?
I have heard mixed reviews on their actual potential and am weary about putting down the cash to invest in one.

depends on your amp, most of the time u dont need those for pure spl

Done and Done...that money is now directed towards Yuli's subs...anyone else that wants to donate to the finally buy Yuli's sub foundation can do so through PM.

i dunno, i haven't had all of the experience but i would have to say that if you've got a little extra cash, a line driver can be a good investment. they can boost you voltage without having to worry about blowing your amps. if you get the right kind, they won't distort the signal too much.
i've got one now, and i don't think i'll be turning back.
