Need new 6x9s... but what brand??

Alright, so I may have blown one of my Lightning Audio 6x9s by feeding them too much power in the low frequency range.

They're rated at 75W RMS (225W peak) @ 4 ohms each, and the output voltage on my MTX amp was set at 17 volts per channel @ 30 Hz unclipped (V^2/ohms= about 72W).

I'm pretty sure it was the low frequencies that took its toll on the things.

The next pair I buy, I intend to use some caps to block out very low frequencies.

Anyways, I have been looking at some new ones to replace them, and can't decide what company I should go with this time around. I was considering Type Rs to go with my sub, but the ones I saw didn't have the RMS power I think I'm going to need to match them with my amp underrated at 150W per channel.

I did come across SoundStream XTS6.9's which have a 200W RMS rating, but how does everyone feel about their quality and proper power ratings?

Decide if you want a good speaker or if you want a price conscious speaker.

Looking to spend no more than $60 or so, but not have them blow with 150W input.

Which is why I'm wondering how SoundStream stacks up in the pile?

I always thought they were considered up there with companies like RF, MTX, Alpine, etc. but still below the JL level.

instead of using caps just try and find a cheap (money wise) crossover box, I found a MTX crossover with one R/L input and high/low R/L outputs, I got it for $20. What deck are you running? If you do go the cap route, make sure they are non-polarized

Is that $60us are you hunting on ebay? $60 is a little low for a higher quality brand. I have a few options close to the $60 but $60 does not buy much these days. Even my entry line starts at about $72cdn

I just have a basic no-name type deck, with full range and sub outputs. I don't use the sub outputs because the crossover point is fixed and cannot be changed on the deck, and is set too low for my liking, so everything runs off of the full range outputs.

The MTX amp which runs the 6x9s only has an on/off switch for lowpass (80Hz) operation, which I don't use in this case, while the RF has a variable dial for LP or HP.

What is the advantage for going the crossover route instead of the cap route?

The 6x9s I have now probably blew from exceeding their xmax constantly from low frequencies, which my sub can handle, but I had hoped their frequency response would have self limited them.

As for price wise, yeah I'm talking $60US on eBay, but it might as well be Canadian dollars, since the dollar is so high nowadays anyways.

It seems like everyone's ignored my original question about how good SoundStream is... Are they really down there with Pyramid???

No Soundstream is fine, by the time you get your product from the US via ebay count on 30-50% more on top with cross border fee, shipping and what have you. JFYI

But no Soundstream is fine and in the middle of the road when it comes to quality IMO

Not when it's being shipped to an american address this week and being picked up and brought back over in my luggage next week.

My Lightning Audio 6x9s were bought at WalMart USA, and that is where they will be returned.

If anyone can answer about the SoundStream Stuff is me..:P What i ended up doing about my Soundstream is to a US addy but i also got them sent to my house.

If you can send them to a US address and pick them up, but now with Ebay Sellers they mark the repiect nice and low something like 50 bucks. because you can cross the boarder and spend 50 bucks US without getting charged.

The most you will end up paying is 5 bucks if you do the boarder way sending them to your house is about 20 - 30 and alot pain and the *** things.

Now for the Soundstream Product for the 6x9's They got Voted the best 6x9's for Coxials.

Prices are BS but if you go Soundstream Only Tranatulas Speaker nothing else.

I personally am running a set of kicker ks69's and they are decent speakers. Reproduce the highs well. Decent rear fill.
