Phoenix Gold Subs?

Are they any good xmax wise?

I see a rating of 25mm (field) peak-to-peak on their website but I don't know how reliable they are for giving accurate information.
Any indication on what the word field in brackets refers to?

I'm looking into maybe getting a 12" Phoenix Gold Octane-R.

I want a 12" with the most SPL for a reasonable price.

depends on what you consider reasonable.. everyone's different. I would recommend a Digital Designs 35xx series. Geat low end output and nice sq.

For the price of that sub its a nice performer, sold a bunch a while back and they work nice. Just be sure not to over power more then 10-20% of the rms handling.

When I say resonable price, I'm talking around $100 just for the driver.

agreed.

a friend of mine is using a pair of the 10's in a huge ported box and they are almost the loudest thing around (surprisingly)
smartass, i think he got from you actually. he is overpowering them by a LOT(he's got a octane 15.0:1 on them) and they take it like champ. not everyone will have those results though. i think he is just lucky

I ran 2 12" PG Octane R's in my 92 integra for a long time, then got a sweet deal on 2 more and shoe-horned 4 into the car. The "cool" factor was huge having 4 of those in an integra, and they sounded really good for what I spent (less than $400 tax included) Not to mention you didnt need a nuclear powerplant to run them.

they are one of the best Bang for the buck subs out there right now. The LED ring in the cones are also pretty sweet to watch at night. You wont get huge SPL out of those subs, but they sound really good compared to other same priced subs.

Are the Alpine Type-R subs a better bang for the buck than the PG Octane-R?

They are better subs, but like 3-4x the price depending where you get the PG's
