Okay first things first. Many people say that the highest SPL that can be produced is around 185 or so because at that point you are at the outside worlds atmospheric pressure and the air is as compressed as it is going to get. Fair enough it makes perfect sense and that is pretty much the end of it. You can however produce higher SPL levels in an atmosphere which is under more barometric pressure like believe it or not under water and it has been proven. So the accepted limit to SPL is the same amount of pressure that the atmosphere around it is in.
Now I look at it like this. Take any motor out there and find the specs on what the compression ratio is. Take 8.5 to 1 as it is pretty common for an average vehicle on the road. The ratio states that the air inside of that combustion chamber that is just from the outside of the car is compressed by 8.5 times when that piston reaches the top of its stroke. To me that says that the limitation to SPL is only limited to the amount of compression that can be created in the vehicle. Yes it is really improbable that people will be doing stupid numbers like 200 dB and stuff like that but it is in my opinion NOT impossible. I kept that kind of short.

if you take a look at this quiz i posted....

i found out that theoretically the loudest possible SPL on earth is 194 dB. because after that the air in the atmospere literally could not compress anymore. and since the dB scale is logartihmic, that would mean that going form 180 to 194 dB would mean a....?!?X amount incresse in sound/pressure. i'm sure it will be a long time before anyone gets to 194 (actual) dB's...but it could be possible.

At 185- 190 dbs the atoms in the atmosephere acually split just like an atom in the atombombs! so I can't see anyone coming close to those ##ers for a little while. Never know though with the installs there coming out with in those extreme classes I hope that Iam proven wrong, you never know with the exepions that wayne allows. I thinkwe might see a 179 by the end of the year at finals but thats just my 2 cents

cause the mic wasn't made to read over that kind of pressure.. at least we think? no one has really tested it to it's full-potential.
also i dunno how accurate it wil read [pressures over like 178 and stuff.. be interesting to see if the mic will fluctuate at that level at all?
