It's REALLY hard to try and guess someone's spl score. So much of it depends on the type of vehicle, how the vehicle has been prepared and the box design.

If I had to guess though I would say somewhere in the range of 135-140.

You can maybe do well in smaller comps but if any serious competitors show up they will probably be able to beat you fairly easily.

Don't get discouraged though, go over and talk to them and ask them for suggestions.

Most of the better SPL guys around here are more than willing to help out someone that want's to learn.

i dont think ill bother competing even if i get crazy equipment. ya i loaded it in winsish i shoudl be able to ge about 120DB iwthout cabin gain. and its a honda civic and from the local dealer in otwn he said to set the cross over belove 80hz anythign about that the civic's just rattle to much. so i set the xover to about 70Hz. 140DB is pretty loud then. I was thinking to purchase a JL w7 but then it didnt work out cuz of the current amps i have.

Speaking of "cabin Gain" does anybody know how much of DB increase a normal car would have? I was told most car cabins boost the DBs up about 15db. So a sub that'll do supposedly 115 db will do 130 db in a car.. is that correct?

SPL Donut...a good cabin gain is 16 db or more...but that also varies with frequency and vehicle...and how well sealed the vehicle is... air leaks sometimes gain SPL sometimes cause you to loose SPL..Ive had as much as 26db boost out of a trunk box(back in the Audio Control days) now average 16-20 db boost with proper tuning

Prajesh P ...you should actually be able to, in that vehicle, with that sub and amp to hit in the low to mid 140's with a properly tuned box...civic=free SPL...if you need a good box Ive got lots of experience with JL subs and building loud boxes Im also from Kitchener
feel free to check my info and you can find address and PH # on my website

I sold a box to a competitor that was built for a single 12" sub..SPL tuned...the guy put a Jl12w3 into it and powered it with a JL 250 amp in a Cavalier (believe 1998 or so) and hit 143.? dB (@46hz)on the termlab...box is everything!
