obviously yes but your rear wave (assuming conventionally mounted) is your more important wave. If there was no basket/motor obstructing this wave from reaching the port (imagine a crx box, subforward port back) then there would be a fairly large gain.

Some guys guys gain from switching from 6 spoke to 12 spoke baskets or vice versa because it doesnt obstruct the rear wave as much. Or from rounding any sharp corners on the basket itself. A more aerodynamic basket/motor structure would surely be a nice gain if the performance was still there.

I have often wondered this same thing, whether there was any advantage/disadvantage to running the sub inverted.
The only disadvantage i noticed personally was that i was a moron and ended up mounting the sub slightly off center (new box and nothing to mark the positioning of the sub over the cutout) and messed up the surround a bit.
This was years ago and have never tried it since.
Has anyone ever tried metering their setup inverted vs conventional?
