Street B Setup

I plan on grabbing another pair of amps this summer, and with that in mind, I've began to wonder about subs as well. The four sundowns would probably burp say ~4kw or more, and I'm not sure if the SXs could take this much power, so SHOULD I:

1)Stick with the SXs and see if they can handle things

or

2)Sell the SXs and grab one big badass 15" driver that's strictly geared for SPL

I've only used the SXs once, and I KNOW they have potential, but I'm thinking it'd be cheaper to step up to something like an MT, BTL, APX, 9500 etc. etc. than to keep reconing blown entry level SXs (if they can't handle the power).

I know the twelves will have more cone area, but there's not much room in the trunk of my car and I'd be able to get a lot more port area with a single sub...

FusionMadsen 03-15-2007 12:03 AM

15" BTL or APX man, maybe even a H2?

worldind 03-15-2007 12:04 AM

The BTL is very enticing

SPLN00B2 03-15-2007 12:04 AM

2 12s = more cone area

worldind 03-15-2007 12:07 AM

Yeah, I noted that, but the problem with the 12s in this trunk is that I have to really build a tight box to squeeze out any sizeable port... I want to try aero(s) but I don't think I can fit a 6" aero on the baffle, and a single 4" aero would be

unholysavage 03-15-2007 12:10 AM

And H2 doesn't really = SPL. I wouldn't trust one taking that much power with any kind of reliability.
Wasn't MTA selling a pair of 12" MTs?
*edit* my bad, he only has 1 left.

SPLN00B2 03-15-2007 12:10 AM

well did you try walling off the trunk and use a slot port?

worldind 03-15-2007 12:15 AM

I haven't yet... but if I do, I'll struggle to get say 60 sq in. at most even with a slot. Think that's enough for a forward firing setup?

Try it out, then borrow someones 15, make the port bigger and see if that is louder.

worldind 03-15-2007 12:17 AM

I put together a forward firing daily driver box that was pretty much like a sealed trunk wall... it was pretty dissapointing, but could probably be better if I upped the tuning, sealed it completely and sealed up the rear deck somehow. Loudest yet has been CRX style though

That sounds like the way to go... if only I had more friends who were into car audio though, I'd be hard pressed to find somebody with a 15 willing to lend

Well I could borrow you my 15'' MT for a day since I don't have a vehicle to put it in right now.

worldind 03-15-2007 12:25 AM

I might take you up on that if it's still not in a vehicle some time in April once I'm through finals and have time to do some box building/get the saturn back on the road

SPLN00B2 03-15-2007 12:26 AM

Its probaly going to be an 18 by april.

Nice, is that what you're doing for street C?

SPLN00B2 03-15-2007 12:28 AM

Nope, might use it for daily, or get another one and do bass race/street max 1-2, but im not sure what im competing in yet.

worldind 03-15-2007 12:30 AM

If all 4 sundowns can manage to do their rated power (this is theoretical, don't make fun of me), do you think an SX can take a 3000 watt burst?

SPLN00B2 03-15-2007 12:32 AM

Ive never really played with SXs before but they might depending on the box.

cav2nv420 03-15-2007 05:47 AM

dont qutoe me on this but if someone could correct me, didnt dave dasilva run 5000 watts per 10" RE sx, he ran two

I think I've heard of that guy.... I think its something like an Mmats amp on each... 3000 watts per sub if I recall - but also if I recall correctly, doesn't he blow those SXs left and right?

Killer_klown187 03-15-2007 10:55 AM

The user MTANEON I believe is Mr DaSilva, Just ask him yourselves :D I say get a beefier sub setup, and BUY MY AMP :P hahah

Who let you in here? Haha I'll have to ask him. And maybe when I sell my books I'll have the cash...

willcann 03-15-2007 11:02 AM

don't knock sx's iv see people last year put two 200.1 and now blow them, Dave did go throw alot of subs but he was doing 53s in his neon, Sx's will take it as long as the box and impedance rise is right.

A pair of 200.1's must be a helluva lotta power! More than I'd have anyway. It's the whole "as long as..." part that I worry about

willcann 03-15-2007 11:11 AM

Dont worry my friend Jamie ram hie 12 Sx's all last year with so many boxes and never blow one sub, and he beat the $h!t out of it

worldind 03-15-2007 11:13 AM

That's good news. Are you using all 4 of those amps on the two kaptions? Nice score so far

willcann 03-15-2007 11:15 AM

no only 2 the kaption barely hold together with two amp 4 would kill them, im waiting for new 12's to come around

Thats what I figured. What 12s are you goin with

willcann 03-15-2007 11:18 AM

apx 12's or mt 12's what ever i can shipped faster

worldind 03-15-2007 11:21 AM

Sounds good. I think my problem is I just like getting new stuff haha... I've literally done 2 days of testing with these subs and I'm already considering replacing them

willcann 03-15-2007 11:22 AM

me too, i did 1 show with my 10's and switched to a 12" mt lol

boombox 03-15-2007 03:30 PM

more power the MT's will win but i have tested the SX to be louder under lower wattage

Brad-S.A. 03-15-2007 04:41 PM

4 of those amps should give you over 6000+Wrms if you can keep it over 12V

Brad-S.A. 03-15-2007 04:42 PM

Run 1 12" :)

At what point do you think the MT's would run away with it?

I thought about doing a single 12" but I wouldn't be able to do street A with 4 amps... I'd have to sell everything and get two bigass amps and I'm not sure how long it'd take to unload all my equip.

You had those Fi/Re hybrids right? Are you doing better with the 12" or had you been louder with the tens?

PsychoAcoustics Canada 03-15-2007 10:06 PM

so far the 10's are louder, but im still in the tuning stage with the 12. The 10 box was tuned, bondo'd, resined and sealed in the trunk. I still have them so we'll see what happens. I got my loudest with 1 sx 12 last season.

MTA 03-15-2007 10:29 PM

ok here's the scoop... Dave Dasilva runs 2 SX 10's with a mmats d3000.1 on each ...each amp produces just under 3000 RMS he did blow quite a bit of 10's becasue the lack of xmax :) but then again in 2005 world finals he did do 153.7dB in Stock 1 out of a trunk car

but then again..same power on a pair of 12's and you should actually be fine and take it like a champ...but then again..you never know till you try

I would go single 15" and BIG ass port if you want to be loud!

your trunk is huge so you should be able to build a nice big efficient box
