No, there are just too many different possible configurations for the woofers (spiders, coils, etc.) to give a generic list of parameters for. Box-wise I guess they just assume that since the consumer will be most likely using it in an SPL setup, there really won't be a magical optimal size.
You don't need to change subs to hit a higher spl number, just a different box and amp. I have hit 147.9 with 2 kicker L7,s. You will need a bigger amp to do it. I have being installing about 16 years now and kicker sub kill if there set up right. A friend of mine also hit 147.7 with his 2 L7 12,s. He was running 2 kicker kx1200,s linked. With this kind of power you must be careful with bass discs. But with normal music they can play all day.

a guy at a cambridge comp last year in a blue neon hit like 157 with 2 12" kicker L7's and a hifonics(not sure the model) amp, yuli was at this show so he should remember the car ..but...that was with the iasca mic not the TL
