Trunk Cars

I'm not sure whether or not this can be answered, or if I'll get the typical "quit asking questions and get an F'n meter" response, BUT....

Do the majority of trunk cars doing solid numbers have their subs faced backwards, or front-firing systems with the trunk sealed off?

Although I havent actually sealed the trunk, I've gone to the hassle of trying both directions (it takes about an hour to wedge/ram the big box out and back in), and the backward-facing style seemed a little harder on the ears (whether or not the meter would agree, i'm unsure)... but I don't know if it'd be worth going to the hassle of ziplocking the trunk to experiment with a sealed forward-fire configuration - that and the fact that I don't have a clue how to do it properly.

You will sometimes see an increase of 1-2Db facing them to the rear.

trevor from kamloops using 2 treo 10 in a 6 cuft box with 2400 watts and hit a solid 147.9

marty from kamloops in a saturn...with 2 pg 12's and 2400 watts..hit a solid 147.5

david da silva in a neon with 2 remt 10's with a shiest load of power....hit a 153.7.

all three are in stock and have trunks and aim them forward....marty is side ways....but shoots forward......

Interesting.... when I had faced mine forward I didn't quite get the same oomph as when they faced backwards, but I'm not sure that what i perceived as "oomph" would correspond with higher numbers on the mic... when facing back they (a couple RE SX 12's) caused a bit more pain to the ears... although faced forward a lot more air was moving.

Well thats because fq's need space and time to travel. Facing backwards gives the wave more length before hitting your ears. It has to bounce from the back of the trunk then forward. Instead of just forward. Some fq's can not be heard close to a driver.

And as for the SPL thing about facing forward on those cars. Maybe the fq used is at its peak when getting to the mic. Its most likely tuned that way. I wonder if those guys have had it facing backward in there trial and setup stages. Most likely.
