the old type r's are still good. I've heard the type r is the "spl" sub in alpines line up though the type x has more power handling. if you can fit a 12'' I'd say for for that, but if not then a 10'' I guess will do well. I will say that I have seen the lower end kicker subs get pretty loud, but they sound like crap sometimes. do the type r, with the proper box it should do just fine. just be sure to protect the cone with some kind of grill

Alright well I just picked one of the new models up today, can't wait to hear it once its broken in. How long should I break it in for? and how many watts should I put through it? Or is there a special frequency or something I can play for a couple hours to speed up the process?

Alright. I ran it at that for about an hour and a half. Should that be good? or is there a safer time I should be doing that for?

hey man good to see your using alpine type R's but with four of them you could easy do a 150db just have to put power to it i had a friend running 2 12" alpine type R's on a bassworx3000.1D amp and was hitting a 149.7 db in his civic so yeah if your running four and change somethings around your going to be nice and loud

I've put a few single Type R's in a few peoples cars, all were 12's though. 600 watts sealed in the one car pounded pretty good and another guy had 600 watts to a ported box and he seemed really pleased.
