Ugly SPL

and again I ask, define "ugly"
when I see lotsa batteries, and lotsa cables, and #'s in the 160's/170's, it would turn me on soooooooooo much more than a civic with a useless screen moulded into the trunk, with flashing L.E.D.'s all over the place, that can throw out a whopping 132 db's

Seriously though... please, show me what you've got.
My equipment... a single 650ci battery under the hood... a single 12" sub and a single 5000w amp.
Please beat 152.9 dbDrag legal, on the dash, and make it look good. Post up pictures of the install when you're done so we can judge it for ourselves
** Edit - I almost forgot... you've got 2 weeks to do the build as well. This is how long I had between the start of the season when I took my car out of winter storage and my first show where I put up that score.
Happy building!

it seems to me too that spl is ugly lol you take time to makes the plans.. slap a box together and tune the system.. if its not up to standards you scrap it. so ya why take the time to paint it or intergrate it onto the vehicle when you are going to scrap it anyway and even when you reach your golden # next year you will still start with a fresh new sub and new box design. ( and many boxes)
only daily setup you will make several boxes to get it right then make it nice and intergrate it in the vehicle and it run for a years until your bored of it and need something new
just my opinion

As an example... I've just spent 2 weeks working on a box for a show this past Saturday. (it shouldn't have taken that long but I ran in to problems mounting the subs properly) ... I brought it out and the thing was a disaster and I couldn't even get a burp out of it. Now I'm kicking myself for having wasted that time when I could have been doing other things. I can only imagine how pissed I'd be if I took the time to properly finish it.

i could just imagine lol
even if i do boxes for daily i have to try and make it nice the first time since i dont have the funds to buy more MDF so i spend a whole weekend building after a whole week of design and planning( damn unemployment sux ***** lmao)

That's a whole lot of ignorance for saying you only have 2 posts in this thread

to judge me on my post count is ignorance... what if i had 40 years of experience in the industry your going to judge me on my post count... now i dont have that but i do know that in car audio its 20% product and 80% install...
i know a guy who went out and bought a 69 dollar 10" sub and is putting out 146db... now you probably wont believe me because i have no way of proving it...
im not an spl because really it is tricky but it takes no skill to burp a tone and make it loud... i am a sq guy... but i
will give props to you guys for hitting high numbers

I never judged you on your post count. I think you misread what I wrote. My comments were based on the fact that you really know how to make a nice first impression on people. (regardless of your knowledge on the subject, there's still a widely accepted way of getting to know people) Do you make it a point to insult 50% of the people at a party when you enter the room? That's pretty much what you did with your first few posts here, regardless of how much you know on the subject.
Saying you know a guy who bought a $69 sub and put out 146 is really misleading. Was the sub really a $300 sub and he bought it from a friend? Did he maybe get it on sale? What meter was this 146db done on (this is REALLY important)? How much power did he use? Where was the mic placed?
As you can see there are a lot of variables so I'm definitely not going to judge you on that statement. I believe it's possible given the right circumstances.
You're right, it takes no skill to burp. Any monkey with a thumb can do it. It sure as hell takes skill to make it loud though.
I'm really not offended or surprised though. Everyone (esp. SQ guys) think that SPL is really easy until they give it a try. Then they start to realise how hard it is to even break 150.
