Actually the old mic was more of a velocity meter, hence the more air you coould pass over the diaphraghm in the tip of the mic the higher your score was. This mic was somewhat trickable with different frequencies like you somewhat eluded to.

However the new term lab measures Kpa and converts its data into a measure of decibels. So in reality the new meter is measuring atmospheric pressure. The new sensor is an automotive PSI sensor from what I understand , therefor making the frequency it is bombarded with irrelavent to the number it will read.

I agree with Ligeia..... air velocity and SPL are synonymous....

I have a feeling the reason you can't 'spike the mic' with the termlab (as another member put it).... has more to do with the way the signal is averaged rather then the pressure sensor used........

ie.. say you do a 3second burp.... if your meter has a 200ms response time and you look at the maximum reading over your burp, you will probably find you get a higher number then the same meter with the output averaged over 1-2 seconds.....

Try Stay tunned installationsin the bridge. If not come to a show later on in the season in Calgary or Bob might hold one again.
