how would voltage drop blow an amp ?

with tight regulation you may force more current through the psu fets but this idea is a major misconception IMO.....

Well again the rated rms on the amp is at 12volts so does not really matter. And a couple of those guys over there are running higher voltage systems so not to sure. It was not stated. But reading a few more of the tests would conclude that the amp is not effected that much by voltage drops below 13-14volts.

the idea is not a misconception. votage drop kills amps.

I do agree with that, as it is a fact that amps run more efficent and cooler when fed properly. And heat will kill an amp. I am going to clearify that yes infact the car in the first test was running after reviewing the information in full. To anyone that feels I mislead them I appoligize. However the amp is capable of its rated output @ 12v and will increase accordingly upto 18volts and lowering the impedence. Its has been benched on a 18Volt system while running and not and the power is reportedly around 5700Wrms with two strapped according to the test results and thats the maximum RMS power reported obviously while running. Not bad for a 1500W amp.

sorry but I call total and say that anyone who thinks voltage drop will blow an amp does not know what they are talking about..... (might want to look up something called Ohm's law)

almost sounds closley related to the myth of not enough power blowing speakers to me

in this myth rail sag and clipping under heavy draw will increase power to the voice coil... and likewise cause an increased load on psu fets... (regulated and unregulated both in the case of clipping)...... But again it is asinine to suggest that more power (voltage) delivery will prevent damage..... and any one with an EE background will tell you that an amp is more likely to blow while puking its guts out in a SPL burp off a bank of 100 batteries then it is off a single battery.......

some may still disagree, but based on the wide variety of failure modes an amp can die under, I seriously doubt anyone here has any sort of conclusive evidence that supports the theory of voltage drop killing amplifers... (which is certainly to the contrary IMO as well as in the opinion of other EE types I know who post on similar forums)

On the otherhand I would agree that burping your amp at 100% + duty at reduced loads will increase your odds of letting out the majik smoke.... As will feeding it 16+ volts during the burp.....
