Who would like to learn how to Spl?

Since there are so many big mouths on this forum, I feel left out lol
I know how hard it is to break into this "sport" for new comers having to get blown away at every show by guys and their rex's, so I will give away ALL of their tricks and secrets. And am willing to teach others how to better their own scores and better understand Spl.
Would like to know who'd be interested.

DeadlySones 01-13-2011 04:45 PM

Les, you know my ass is subscribed... :smilie_da

SOULMUSIC 01-13-2011 04:47 PM

Zachg 01-13-2011 05:21 PM

I would love to learn!

Hopefully not much money is needed...

luke99 01-13-2011 05:25 PM

bland 01-13-2011 05:26 PM

In.

Decided to go a different route than the crx, and now I'm trying to learn with a car similar to yours. Getting there slowly.

Killer_klown187 01-13-2011 05:29 PM

I am in, I am always down to learn,

AB FTW 01-13-2011 05:36 PM

LOL are you for real. Please inform the rest of the class Bill Nye since you have so much knowledge that others are lacking.

SID0001 01-13-2011 06:00 PM

interested

Lessy 01-13-2011 06:38 PM

Now what would everyone prefer, something writen or a video?

This is exactly what I mean with this thread. For some it's such a slow process that they just give up.
I think it'll even up the playing field a bit if everyone knew what it takes that others do to get loud.

StillPlayinLow2 01-13-2011 08:09 PM

step 1, buy a termlab...lol

Killer_klown187 01-13-2011 08:17 PM

x2, lol Then....

As for presentation style... maybe mix it up a lil.... :)

Father Yuli 01-13-2011 09:28 PM

could be good.

DaVibe 01-13-2011 09:51 PM

Make a YouTube series out of it ... If you get enough views around the world - cha ching!

Murilo 01-13-2011 10:39 PM

good stuff

maybe you could compile videos from more users?

ctdsoundz 01-13-2011 11:35 PM

I'm definitely interested. Bring it all out Les.:smokin:
Makes no difference to me whether it is a video or book. I can read as well.

That's not entirely true. 2009 I use a golf and got loud. As les will confirm its all about how much work you put into it and if you're willing to try different. Enough of me saying anything more as I don't know anything about spl. C'mon Les, do yo thang bruddah:smilie_da

Gen.Ben 01-14-2011 12:13 AM

Teach me how to get loud.

I am a newbie to the sport. I got a bunch of gear and I am getting my car in 2 weeks so will be starting my build then. I've done many installs already and built many simple ported boxes. How do I get a loud trunk? I have 2 12" Incriminator Audio Death Rows, Two US Amps Merlin MD2D's that are 1500w RMS each, gunna get a big XS battery under the hood and one in the trunk. Gunna do the big 3, HO alt.

Basically I got everything down except box design. Not sure what will be loud and low. I'm looking for a loud daily setup and want to tune it to around 32-36 hz to get the low lows :D

The vehicle is a Toyota aristo so its kinda a difficult car to work with with the gas tank between the rear seats and trunk but the rear deck drops into the trunk so it shouldn't be too bad.

Any suggestions to start would be great.

bart pyle 01-14-2011 12:26 AM

I would start by explaining basic testing....this is where ive seen the biggest issue for most spl'ers.

Murilo 01-14-2011 06:47 AM

exactly! one of the first things should be teaching how to NOT burp for more than a couple seconds and always charge between burps, with a cooling interval.

these are 2 very important things ppl take for granted. dB Don posted a very usefull sheet for testing amp power ... recommend using that also along with SPL output

Livin Louder 01-14-2011 07:04 AM

Good thread.

Videos, Pics, Powerpoint Presentations all go well together. Theere should be a Weekly skype or live confrence call between splers to get the info passed on about testing, tuning, progresses, Qs and A's..

Have fun!

Father Yuli 01-14-2011 07:50 AM

not only this could be educational but it could also be done with style, runway style that is. bring it on SPL model.

Father Yuli 01-14-2011 08:16 AM

Les you should start with a sealed box and go from there.

first just port it randomly, then tune the port, then change box size, etc in whatever order. do it with a small amp as well, something like 2,000 watts or less.

i'll film if you want.

That would be cool with skype, I would definitely be interested in that.

SP Canada 01-14-2011 11:05 AM

We could add on an ask a judge segment at the end of every episode!

Sounds like a good idea.

Killer_klown187 01-14-2011 12:25 PM

I think this is probably one of the better ideas, it will help newbs come in, and not be AS scared when they come to a show and hit a mid 20 on TL, lol. I remember going to my first show in ontario, and it was an eye opener. once its done and created, I think it will be stickied and kept..cause it could be a great reference tool

With big power I cans see how this would be important, but with my simple 5k setup with a large 3100 (2150) battery right beside the amp I can do 3-4 burps before my score even looses a tenth. Helps a lot since I do my testing in the middle of nowhere.

luke99 01-14-2011 01:57 PM

i think that was more towords newcomers since im sure everyone will agree you see a newbeee come to a show and burp for over 30 seconds and fry their gear while all they have to do is burp for 3 or 4 seconds and save their stuff

I know there's always those grey area Q's & A's

Killer Klown's got it right man!! Get this up/going, skicky it, it will help ALOT of people out.

all your fuses is what's kiling it for you, they are already stopping enough current. that's why you can do a few burps before your score drops.

without fuses your score should drop every burp when you have nothing limiting the current draw.

bland 01-14-2011 03:21 PM

I tested with the fuses out before finals. No change, same score.

My battery in the rear can support the 5k, and also clamps consistently over 4k.

I was really hoping for a gain going fuseless

bland 01-14-2011 03:29 PM

Other reason could be that the front battery is just not strong enough to make a difference (kinetik), but not weak enough to hurt the score.

With the amount of power I clamp, I'm more than happy. Just need to work on my design more. Made a mistake this summer of building the same box over, and over with small change, which of course gave me small gains or losses.

Murilo 01-14-2011 09:19 PM

connect a charger while testing, use either the voltage or the current (better) as a referential, after the burp (charger off) you charge back to your reference voltage. This also helps VC cooling (higher temperature higher Re - less current drawn form the amps output - higher impedance rise, less power).
