your box tunning and tone?

building a 4th order box for my buddies 15l7, i had someone help me with the specs and they told me to tune it too 60hz @ 80 inches port area. is this to high for strictly spl? i was thinking about bringing it lower to around 55. this is my first time working on a strictly spl box.

i was wondering what everyones SPL boxes are tuned to and what tone you guys play

and i know every box and sub is different. im just using this feedback as a starting point, im more than likely going to use a sweep from 40-55hertz to find where its max spl is but the problem in the only meter i can get near is going to be the one at the first DBdrag in FEB.

im sure someone will correct me and say they have never seen anything that high... but i have.

What sort of vehicle will this be in? I'd say you're better off to start a little lower like you suggested... fourties and up until you don't gain anymore.

this is going to be in a crew cab truck, the problem is that with 80 inches port area to get any lower than 55 is going to really long, probably too long.

im designing this box so that the port is easily removed and replaced. the lowest port i can make is 48hertz. i think im going to make 2, one at 48 and one at 60 and see which ones better on the mic at DBdrag.

you will also have to play the right tone to go alog with it. grab a bunch of tones off realm of excursion and see which one is the loudest.

Tuning is based on the resonant frequency of your car.

Most North American cars are from 50-65hz.

My Mazda was 59hz... the Panda is 72.

in that case i will go for the 60 and maybe the 48 will be low enough for some daily.

I think you may get some unloading issues playing the sub daily tuned to 48hz...

yeah but thats the lowest i can get it to go without the port being too long, i might see about getting to to around 40 by playing with the port area.
