2 way or 3 way speakers for rear audio fill...
Ok I am in serioud need of some speakers for my car.... My rear speakers in my car cant handle the setup I am running in the front of my car, they bottom/pound to the point of blowing when i turn my radio up in my car.... They are just cheap stock replacement speakers so tehy arent anything special.... was just giving them a chance to show me how crappy they are hahaha..... Now my question is whats the best for rear fill in a car? 3-way of 2-way speaker? I am looking at either getting some 6.5" to replace them (since thats what stock is) or getting some 6x9's and making a custom mount for them, i would presume the 6x9 would be a better route to take since they will give me more power and better sound perhaps over a 6.5" speaker but maybe i am wrong and i guess that would depend on what I am getting in manufacture.... Anyhow any opinions on this matter would be great.... I am in need casue right now i have my amp gain for the rears turned down and even with that the speakers are pounding crappy and my setup sucks with just front speakers & subs with minimum rear fill.... Thanks!

This is an old debate; do you or don't you need rear fill? My opinion is simply..it depends. If you have a small car with no rear seats, ergo no rear passengers and very little distance to the rear, then I say probably not (unless you want surround sound or just like rear sound). If you're like me, and you have a large interior with rear passengers who like music, plus you have a 5.1 system, then it's a necessity. Try turning off your rear speakers and sitting in the rear...sounds really bad. The other reason is just plain taste, I like the sound of rear fill systems much more than even really well set up (competition) front only systems. I find the front only systems are missing something...ambiance that just does not sound as open as rear fill generates. I've tried my systems (many of them over a long period in many different cars) with and without rear fill, and I always go with the fill. Additionally, for most "normal" non-custom installs, it's easier to get louder and I think better sound with front and rear speakers than with front only. I'm talking about stock locaion installs, not custom door pods with 8" woofers etc...Anyway, those are my experiences, and my opinions only.

Well I have a 93 prelude, and I fidn when i am driving that the car really lacks mid bass, My integra (I know 2 different cars) with the good 6.5" speakers (think they are 2 way, they have no tweeter almost look like a mini sub but they arent lol) I have in it the car just seemed to overall have a better sound.... This car just seems to be all trebble when driving at a standstill its not too bad but still seems to lack overall good mixture of sound (I am using the same deck in both cars and amp manufacture) I myself like to have a front stage affect but still like to have more then just the low bass in the rear from just my subs working their asses off to provide it.... I like the mids and lows to be provided by the rear and the mids/highs to be provided by my components in the front..... My car just currently seems to be lacking the mid's.... I was told to get a EQ but the rear speakers I have cant handle the setup I have right now so I cant see how much a EQ would help when I am about to blow the rears up as we speak lol...... I tried turning down the rear speakers with the gain on the amp but the speakers are so crappy that they dont turn off they are still on and still loud enought to hear, so I tried to turn up my front speakers but I really didnt like the sound at all....
With that said does it help any?
Here is my current setup
Diamond Audio M6 series Front Components
Pioneer cheapy 6.5" rear speakers
2 12" Image Dynamic's subs in sealed box
Pioneer DEH-P8MP
MTX Thunder4244
Sub amp cant remember model but its made by Crossfire
My rear speaker mounting area isnt very deep, so I think I am goign to be stuck with the 6.5" speaker and not beable to go with the 6x9's that i was thinking of....

If you want mid bass look at the Kicker ss series 6.5", shallow mount dedicated midbass speakers. I've heard a few cars with these in the rear deck, and I was very impressed with the impact of the system. I'm tempted to try them myself, but my system is sounding real nice right now and i don't want to screw with it.

midbass in the back is a bad idea.
imagine listening to a kick bass coming from the rear when you know the drum kit is on stage infront of you
make sure you have mid bass up front first. if you ever were to compete the first thing they would say is turn down the rear.
unless your into 5.1 spent the money in the front first.
if you got the room try a couple of 8's. midbass up front, bass and sub bass in the rear.

^^well it's only a bad idea if that's how you feel sound in the car should be set up. I don't!! The most important factors in car audio for me are; clarity, impact, volume, and big sound. It does not have to image like a "real live performance" since I've yet to hear a concert or live performance where I was in the "sweet spot". The only advantage a live performance has, as far i'm concerned is the energy of the performers and the audience. I guess that's why i don't compete, I like what I like.
