6.5'' components suggestions
#1
seems weird posting in the SQ section...i usually stick over on the SPL side. but i want to make an upgrade in my front and rear stages this season so that my mids and tweets can keep up with the base. plus, i ordered a 4 chan amp to power up the stages so i want to get some good speakers....
right now, i have pioneer 120W max 6.5'' components in the front and back...can't remember the exact model, but they're nothing special.
i'm going to run a little more power to them and i want a little better SQ so when i crank it they don't blow or start to distort/crackle.
what do you guys reccommend? i'm not looking for top of line, because i have a budget, and not pocket full of cash, but i want a little better power handeling and SQ? what would you suggest?

What are the power ratings on the 4ch you just picked up?
Are you planning to run active or bridge the channels?
What kind of music do you listen to?
Where are the speakers going to be mounted?
How much mounting depth do you have available?
What is your budget?
New or used? Does it matter?

I am using Focal 165v for more than 3 years. It still the best buy I have ever done in car audio. In fact, they are the only gear i refused to changed when I rebuilt my system 3 months ago.
I am feeding them them with a lot of power, 150 RMS (at first with an Alpine 3544 and now with a JL Audio 300/2). They love huge power and play really loud without any distortion and compression.
But most important, they sound so sweet! Amazingly clear and detailed sound with an excellent punch in the midbass and extended high frequencies (Focal are well known for their inverted dome tweeter technology). In fact, everybody that listened to them in my car, are amazed how much they are good sounding.
The version 2 of these is out for about a year and won the prize of the best speakers kit in europe (at an electronic convention I think. More details on Focal website).
The best price I can get them here in Montreal is $450. Not bad at all considering the quality and performance you ended up with.
Coffeyman, do yourself a favor and go listen a pair of any model of Focal. I'm absolutely sure that you will be really impressed. Even with high expectations.

I was very impressed with the subwoofer line up. But at the price focal wants other speakers are much better value.
I have been impressed with many focal setups. But they have all been in competion built cars where the owner must have taken gobs of time setting up angles and critical listening time.
My point is any speaker you cant just drop in factory location and sound reasonably decent are a joke.
