AVI I was really impressed with.

I have always liked Quarts forgiving Mid.

Dynaudio are nice.

Even Aplines Type X I thought were a great value.

i've never really been a huge fan of quarts. almost every quart setup i've heard has given me a migraine from stupidly shrill highs. focals are pretty sexy, vifa is probably one of my personal favoriates that i've heard so far and avi is a definate favoriate they have awesome sounding speakers/subs for any budget really.

Merlin, by the sounds of it you need to play with the tweeter attenuation.

none of the quart installs i heard were ones that i had any part installing never really had a chance to hear a set properly installed i suspose. i understand what you mean by playing with the attenuation, but none of them were my cars just ones that people showed me. its been a while since i heard a quart system tho so maybe i'll see a different light (especially since the shop is going to start carrying them soon)

Proper install and use of the tweeters off axis response coupled with the proper attenuation is the key. I am hard of hearing and need a tweeter like the Quarts pure titanium dome if I am going to hear any amount of top end, especially when the windows are down. I have also heard some really crappy sounding speakers before as well, but to each his own, it is what the user is happy with.

quarts are VERY good off axis, better than most, but they dont handle a lot of power. they just dropped their prices so they can be had for a decent price.

i'm kind of the opposite rob, i have really sensitive ears. mostly to highs, almost to the point where i cry like a school girl if something sounds bad enough cause its hurts pretty bad to listen. i always found the titainium to be a lil much for me so i kinda dig the silk. but i guess thats the great thing about having different product we all like something different.

Guess I gotta hop in some of these Usaci cars next time I'm at one of their events, 'cause I've always thought my Kenwood 6x9's sounded kickass...

They're screwed into either wood (on the back doors) or plastic rings (on the front doors). They pump as loud as I ever want them too, and they sound pretty darn good at "normal" levels too.

But ya... my Clarion amp is four channel... so I could move all four of my 6x9's to the back doors on my Alpine and get some components for the front... one day. And I'll probably get Orion or Kenwood or Clarion, I'm not to picky.

But I gotta replace/repair me dead H2 first
