Hmmm, where is that Pandora's box with the active vs. passive debate? Oh, there it is. Let's open 'er up.

It's been a pretty long time since I've heard a great sounding passive system. Active just makes things so much more easy. An awesome sounding passive system just brings a ton of cool factor though, both sonically and visually. If you can succeed with passive, you are just that much more skilled IMO.

^^^I have to agree SUX. I remember Lucio Proni's (owner of JL audio) mustang GT from back in the day with some killer passive networks.

Yeah, that is true, Sux.
My friend had 2 systems in his BMW540. The first was a passive system with active on sub. Headunit was a Sony XES Z50. Genesis Monoblocks on the front MB Quart point source 5 1/4 speakers. I forget the model Number. One 12 MB sub mounting up front running off a dual mono Genesis.
The second was a Pioneer P9 system. Running 4 way active to a Soundstream 7 channel Davinci. JL 15W6 in the trunk and a 3 way MB Quart front end.
Both systems went to great lenths in the install. Sealed and fiberglassed pods, imaging, etc.
I have to say that 35 hertz and down went to the P9 system because of the 15W6 in the trunk. 35 hertz up went to the Z50 system. Bar none the best sounding system I have ever heard!
That being said, sound is a personal thing. And I don't think there is a real answer to this question. Too many variables.
Just use what works for you and have fun with it!!!

I agree a passive setup can be great.....i will still go with one channel pre x-over(to avoid phase issues) but your stuck with the gear you built them for.Active you can change to a new vehicle, location of speakers,or change gear all together.

While we are talking about active vs. passive - which is better:
Passive aggression, or active aggression?
