So if i do what killergrand said and open up the back of the pod into the door I should retain the improved imaging while gaining the lower frequencies. So the next step would be to break out the brown bread and seal up the door best I can?

you will want to cover up every hole on the inner door panel skin and get the speaker as close to the door panel grill as possible, cut it out and build a more accoustically transparent grill if possible, those pastic slotted, perforated grill are murder on midrange escpecially on the drivers side speaker where you are really off axis

Without the pods the speakers need to be recessed into the doors to get the factory grill on. The pods bring the speakers out angle the up and back and allow the tweeter to be mounted right beside the mid. Now I am using the Alpine grill instead of the factory perforated plasitc. The pods are definetly going to improve imaging. Since defro mentioned that I am not getting those lower harmonics I went out and had a good listen to it and he is right. The vocals sound better but the lower frequencies do sound thin. I can open up the back of the pod into the door cavity and with the door properly sealled I think it will make a big difference. Also the pods I had the orion xtr comps in were frigin huge so that probably why they sounded fuller than these ones. Thanks for the idea killer.

good luck and use lots of anti resonance material, eliminate vibration and try to provide the most unobstructed path for the speakers to your ears, in my car i use no grills on the midrange or the tweeters and the sound is totally different with them on, sorry if we killed the idea but you were on the right track
