What kind of amp and how much power were they running where u demo'd those speakers? I've found deck power not nearly enough to run them and haven't heard them on less than 75w each. They are a wicked speaker though. That's cool adjustment in that x-over. With most other components, until u move waaay up the lineup, you'd get probably 3 adjustments. My fairly high end set of Massives only has -3, 3, or +3db adjustment. They sound sweet in the sound room. Hoping they are equally as sweet in fiberglass door pods

Ive done a couple KTPs on JVCs but never wired to factory. Novel approach. Why didn't u wanna replace deck? Is it on of those integrated units or just an *** pain? What did u use for "remote" wire? Accessory?

They were running off a pdx 100 rms per channel but the tweeter sounded a bit distored when he cranked it. Must be an Alpine thing but the x-over was factory set at 0 db. I am sure they will do allright on 50 rms with a -3 db setting. I will try 0 db first though. Who knows till I try them but lets put it this way. They had better sound better than the type s's. Cause I don't want to have to return these too. Keeping finger x's.

I would have loved to replace the deck but at the time they didn't make dash kits for the Genesis Coupe. Besides the stock deck comes with a usb in so didn't really feel the need and still don't. I chose the KTP cause i could hide it easily in that tiny car. I used the same remote wire that went to the stock deck. So yup the acc.

Any deck will send distortion to the amp when cranked. And an amp is gonna do it's job and amplify that distortion. Salesman should know when to draw the line on the old volume crankin. But salesman are not all that smart sometimes. I sell but I also install so I know when enough is enough. I hate when people go in our sound room and crank the deck, not realizing volume control is through the EQ. If ya don't know F off.

Ha, ya I know. I think the salesman was trying to impress me for a sale. I like it loud myself but you are right, there is a limit.

Ok. I got the Alpine Type R's installed and OM f*cking G it's sounds great! I didn't have to change the db setting and they don't distort at high volume. WOOT! Alpine Type S components = poop. Alpine Type R componets = heaven. I have the Type S coaxials in the rear and they are fine so Type S coaxial are way better compared to the Components. All in all the R's are far superior imo and it's night and day compared to the S's. I knew it wasn't my deck or amp. It was cheap speakers! Granted the R's aren't as loud but that's better than loud distortion. Still loud enough imo. Oh and the midbass is amazing! Man, I am so happy.

I sell alpine stuff and always suggest type s if driven off deck power. Even that KTP is more than double that. Prob a little beyond s components. I'm glad to hear those Rs treatin you good. How do they mingle with the Ss in the rear? Did you hav to do any fading? Rs def have more mid bass even when driven off deck power.

The midbass is night and day. My stock paper cone speakers had more midbass then the S's. the S's serve their purpose in the back to fill everything in. I like the soundstage with the S's and R's. They compliment each other. Same thing but different.

A lot of stock speakers are geared stricly towards bass. Thats what they think people want these days. And they're more or less right when you're talkin about the masses. I don't understand why they don't put some decent tweets in there. That's all I have done on my front and it's crazy how much better it sounds. How were the highs from factory? Did it have sail panel tweets factory? I like how u called them "same thing but different" I call that samular. So similar they're almost the same.

Ya, I think you are right about the stock speakers being geared for bass. The stock tweets were mylar and didn't go very loud but at least they didn't distort at high volume. They are located behind the the door panel (not flush mounted) just under the sail panel. The location is great but they are better flush mounted. That's what I did with my R's and just made a mounting piece out of black vinyl to cover the existing grill that was there and it looks almost like it came stock like that. What I meant by same but different is they are both Alpine and produced the same way just one is a bit better than the other. I like the sensitivity of the S's in the rear cause the wire is so long that it adds resistance so It works out to the same as the R's sensitivity. That's my theory anyways. Kinda like how Infinity makes 2 ohm speakers to compensate for the wire resistance. I just barely hear the S's in the rear so it's just perfect. I don't like cars that have all soundstage at the front and hardly any rear fill. To me I should be able to hear the rear a bit. It kinda sounds like the music comes from between the front seats.
