I've had two type x 12's since ~2005 and the only problem i had with them is as they age, the rubber surround comes apart from the woofer cone. Which causes a loud flapping/fluttering noise. The first time the sub did that was a year after i bought it, traded it in for a new one. My second x just had the same thing happen to it. I just used weather strip sealant and it does the trick. Gotta reapply it every 3 weeks. Love The sound, want more spl so im upgrading.

I had one where the voice coil came unwound.. The amp i had was too hard for me to set up myself (it was a digital display amp... and big, i don't remember which alpine amp it was, but it put out the RMS of the Sub.) anyways.. i should of had someone who knew what they where doing set up that amp. but alpine replaced the sub for free even though it was my fault. I ended up donating the amp and sub to my friend because my wife and i had a baby, and she didn't want me having that type of power in our van. the amp and sub are both still sitting at his house waiting for him to get someone to install them for him (2 1/2 yrs later.) But I give props to Alpine for replacing something that was obviously not their fault.
