Alpine Type X Questions
#21
my bimmer comes with the Harmon Kardon set-up, but it lacks alot of base,
And im hoping to upgrade the sub first, then the mid range drivers.
Oh i also got a apline Iva deck, since i wanna watch movies as well:P
And i havent heard the BTL, but i have Type X's in my Integra, and they are soo amazing to me. Since my bimmer is my daily car, i dont want it to take up soo much room, thats why im going with just a one sub set-up. Im guessing that the BLT will be louder than the type x.
I bought a red top optima battery as well.

Why not go for a JBL GTO1214D (DVC)? Fits in 1cu.ft. sealed, has 15mm of Xmax and is within your price range with money to spare as well.

I do like the JBL one, but Im pretty sure its nothing compared to the BLT 12
Also I found a guy who does custom carbon fibre boxes, and he told me he can make me a ported carbon fibre box for under 450, and i think its a good investment, since it would be way lighter and i do go take my car to the track twice a year.... He told me to give him the specs and he will make it....
What do you guys think about carbon fibre boxes???
Yes JBL and Infinity is owned my Harmon

Bacon, lettuce, tomato... Maybe a little mayo and cheese? Toasted?
As for the carbon fiber box, I don't see the point, aside from looks. The amount of wieght you're going to save with the carbon fiber isn't going to majorly impact your car's performance. Fiberglass (which is common practise in comparison, and cheaper) would be the way I would go, but that's just my opinion. I think you'll find that most members here would suggest a "regular" box to get "loud". I suppose it's all relative to what you think is loud. In your case, make sure the gear you're selecting is solid, and the install is equally as solid. The BTL seems to be the best bang for your buck, from what I'm reading, so you've pretty much got the product side covered, next is the install. You just have to work with what you have. The other option for you is to build a proper box for it, and when you have a track day, you can pull just the box out, as that's 90% of your system's wieght

finding one 12" sub that's louder than two type x 12's (or any other decent 12 for that matter) will be extremely hard to do while sounding good. If you're willing to tune high for spl purposes, sure, but for typical daily listening with similar space and power...not likely. All other factors aside, if you look at max output (xmax x sd) the 2 type x will move 2010 cc's of air versus 1344 cc's for the btl...both at max rms of 2000 watts total. That's a huge difference in the amount of air (output) potential. Unless the 2 type x's are severely limited by poor enclosure design and/or lack of power, there's no way given similar environments that the one sub will be louder.
