i assume you're asking about the JL HO box vs. a regular sealed box? can't say if it'll sound better as that's pretty subjective, but it will be louder.

^^^And I will have to say what I usually say, it is easier to get good sound from a sealed box than a ported one.

In an ideal word we build a box to perfectly match the driver and the car in question. Then the sealed vs vented argument is a real battle.

Reality slams the woofer in a box, and a prefab is probably the wrong size with the wrong port length. A sealed will sound better more often in those circumstances.

I appreciate what you're saying. I've heard a lot of good things about it but tomorrow I'll try it and see if it's enjoyable for my type of musical tastes.

I love my H.O. box sounded great pounded hard!

I dont like sealed i find there not loud very tight sounding...not my thing!

Most people go with ported ive had a few people go with sealed and were very disappointed!

I would rather say: "It is easier to mess up a vented box than a sealed one."

But then that's the risk when chasing superior performance

So I swapped into a HO Box.

Wow.. this was definitely the rigth decision for may musical tastes.

The 10w6v2 still hits hard and clean, but I now have a ton of headroom that I didnt in my previous box. The lows are coming through much stronger now.

Can anyone answer a few questions for me though?

I asked my installer about the proper "infrasonic filter" setting to use now that i'm not in a sealed box, and could face the potential of unloading.

They said, just set it at about 22hz because below that you aren't going to hear it. However someone i've been speaking to who used to own Eastern Ave's shop says, set it to just below the port's tuned frequency because below it you essentially have "no box" and could run into unloading issues.


Who's right here? The gap from 22hz to 35ish hz is pretty big!

As usual, I'll recommend you try both and everything in between and decide for yourself which sounds better TO YOU, it's free, easy and you may just learn something in the process.

Don't let whats "supposed" to sound better limit you or your equipment.

It's one of those variables you can change easily. If you don't like the way it sounds...just change the setting. You may find a setting you really like and keep it that way for years, then all of a sudden your musical taste changes and you have to change the settings or re-tune, re-arrange, or change equipment to satisfy your new taste. Point is, you have what you need to adjust the settings...your ears.
