They said, just set it at about 22hz because below that you aren't going to hear it. However someone i've been speaking to who used to own Eastern Ave's shop says, set it to just below the port's tuned frequency because below it you essentially have "no box" and could run into unloading issues.


Who's right here? The gap from 22hz to 35ish hz is pretty big!
Your installer is 'more correct'. Really, there's not much usuable information below even 30hz. As far as the box 'unloading', it does this at a gradual rate, much like a crossover slope. I generally recommend no lower than a half octave below tuning. In this case that is around 26hz.
