I find that phoenix gold amps have a "crunchy" sound, whereas Jl amps are more of a "chewy" sound. Mei amps have that missing electronics inside sound to them, and so do pyramid and audio bahn. You know what I mean? I sure don't.

Me declaring the best amplifier just ain't gonna happen.

I'll rave about good, but the best....that's for someone else with far deeper pockets than I have to find out.

^ Yep. Just the basic fact that no one can ever really know what another human exactly hears means it is way too subjective of a topic to label something the best. It's only collective agreement by people who have somehow garnered a reputation for knowing how something 'should' sound that decides what is generally better sounding than another. That's also kinda why if you want to get good in competition, you need to know what the judges are listening for. And if they are trained that way in judges training, then get that same training to know what to tune for

I too subscribe to the fact that a properly designed and built amplifer should never add or detract from the signal it is amplifying.

Ok, I see some people saying all different types of amplifiers. I have just bought a set of 3 way Focal K2 Power Components. I want to maintain the quality by purchasing an amplifer of good quality, clean, clear and able to shatter my windows with that beautiful Focal tweeter.

I have been debating McIntosh, but really people, that is the only real high end brand of amplifer I know. You all know more about this that i do. Would you do it, or is there another amplifer you would recommend?

Also I am getting 2 of the 13" Focal 33KX's. I have heard, but I don't know if it is true, that running a McIntosh for subs is a waste. I was told your subs will sound clean, clear but much quieter than other amplifers. They said, do McIntosh on the components and something else on the subs. I am confused. If you know anything about this...please help me. I hate to waste hard earned money. thanks

I would suggest calling Audio Concepts Mobile in Calgary. They carry Focal and McIntosh, as well as a few other very highly regarded brands.

Quite specifically, I would suggest running Audison VRx series amps. But you really should go to the shop to make your own decisions with your ears. It's worth the trip.

Ask for Jason Hay.

FYI, I'm running the Focal Utopia 165W3 kit, 4 Focal 21V2 subs, and a mix of Audison VRx and Arc Audio XXK amps.

Check out the Audison LRx and VRx lines here...

www.audison.com

and...

http://www.elettromedia.it/

Audison is one possible & good match for Focal drivers of that calibre. The LRx line is actually very well priced.

So it's agreed, there is "no one best amplifier for SQ", rather a combination of 2 ?
Oui, d'accord!
