I have a sony xec505 crossover, and when it is powered up i get a buzz through my whole system, even if the rca's are unplugged from the unit. why? is the crossover bad, or is it a ground problem?

well i think it is a bad rca, cause I turned off the crossover and the buzz is still there,

try to isolate the problem. This is basic troubleshooting.. You say that if you have NO RCA cables connected at all to your sony xover the buzz is still there? What if you connect RCAs from HU to amp? what if you remove power from xover? Isolate the problem to a known cause. What frequency is this buzzing? (is it 60hz power line noise comming in over the air? or is it some switching powersupply noise?) Is it in the car or out of the car? You may have a grounding problem. Is the power and ground to the sony xover solid? where is the ground and power connected to?
