Canton Components

proper component matching, install, tuning and vehicle characteristics make a great sounding system. I've heard Jensen and L.A. Sound components that sounded better than Focal and B&W, in their specific vehicles. Personally I've never been impressed enough by focal or audison to buy their equipment, don't get me wrong they sounded very good but not enough so as to change my equipment or pay the outrageous prices for them.
I've auditioned them(focals) at three different establishments and was not blown away even though the sales rep seemed to be pointing out things that I could not hear. Maybe my ears are FUBAR, but when I compared them to the other brands on the board, I really could not hear a big enough difference to justify their price point.Ofcourse he was appalled and attempted to berate me, which doesn't work well when you are twice as large as someone else. I actually found the sound too "fat" for my liking and not bright enough.Needless to say, I won't be shopping there. ONE MAN'S FOOD ANOTHER MAN'S POISON.

^ Oh, in his new toys post he has a pic of some Focal comps that were "installed" in his dash. Considering all of the advice you read on solid baffles and non-resonant mounting I found his choice to not use any screws to hold in the midbass somewhat unorthodox..
Kilowatt - yes. Really.

---Brandon,
here's a serious piece of advice: take off those blinders that Focal and Audison seemingly implanted on your head.
second, stop giving advice because your views are so far skewed off reality its not even amusing... i truly feel like every time i read one of your posts i'm having a product brochure regurgitated (usually a focal or audison).
third, never was a question posed as to which componets to get (i'm completely taken that you suggested something Focal) but rather an opinion of the products stated.
lmk if you see what i'm saying.

i used to sell canton and was very impressed with most of the products they made, they made a great 6.5" coaxial, cant remember the model # and an amazing 7",4" and tweeter 3 way set that i still use as our shop speakers to this day, never blown up and they have been ABUSED. i kinda miss canton, the made a spectacular 4" as well and the european drop in speakers were very cool and good sounding as well. i would love nothing more that to do a blind a/b test with brandon

If you have a problem with my oppinions, then pm me or keep your mouth shut.
Focal and Audison haven't blindfolded me, I know what I like, if you can't handle that...to ****ing bad, I've listened to MANY different comp sets, amps, subs and decks, I like what I like, and if I don't like something there's a good reason.
Give me one good example of my veiws being "skewed off reality". Wanna get into the amp discussion again? Lets call Tim into this too for old times sake I still stand by my statements.
I appologize for sounding like a brochure, I will agree with you on that, I get into great detail and big words that may be too much for some to handle, when I'm talking about something I know about.
I suggested something and you jumped on me for it....I didn't have a problem with you before now Marco, do I need tell you the same thing I tell Richard?

Canton is excellent gear. As for your comments Brandon - I've heard marginal Focal setups also but I'm not about to make a decision from them. Although I suppose the life altering sound you got when you plopped your set into your factory dash openings firing right at the windshield is a showcase for the quality they can deliver eh?
You come off as an expert but don't even know brands or the market. Go read an internet page.. [/QB]

I've never claimed to be an expert, and please define what you mean by, I don't know brands or the market. What exactly am I missing, oh godfather of car audio?

You think you're gonna intimidate me or something with that statement, I know what my ears hear and I know the limits of my hearing. If you wanna do an a/b next time you're in town by all means give me a ring and state the terms of the test.
