the alpine type x are not loud at all, there must be another brand of speakers in edmomton that you could audition, tha alpines are an sq set of speaker, and are very laid back. as far as surrounding yourself with sound, a properly set up set of decent components can make your brain think that there are spekers behind you, its called psycho-acoustics.if youwant a loud component set that sounds really good, try the jbl c608gti

I would go with a really good 3-way set up front and just a good 2-way set in the rear.
Are you thinking of Morel Tim? They can put out a lot of SPL and sound great doing it

go with a three way set up all the way...8" midbass 6.5mid and a big screaming tweeter.....way more simple to set up than runing 4 sets!

Instead of going by brandname and what people say is good... Id look at the air space you have and model the drivers you are thinking of using to see if you can get 1. the frequency response you want 2. the box allignment you want

^yup........... this guy wants to move air and surround himself in the loud-ness. He's not talking about SQ as some of us define it. I think to him (correct me if I'm wrong) will be clean, no distortion ripe my head off sound. Imaging/staging/tonality......... probably not of much concern. I did this........once. It's actually fun stuff. I had a ten driver front end !!! ***** !!!!

I think 8", 6.5" and pair of tweets is a good start up front. Or dump the 8" and go two 6.5". Find fairly efficient drivers and you won't need a lot of power to get loud. But the more cone area the better. You want loud......... get lotsa cone.

I agree with the last dude - if you want it stupid loud, but still sounding good - use multiple mids - quad 6.5" mids (2-per side) a smaller midrange and a nice tweeter.

Hertz has a couple of killer sets - one has the quad 5.5" midbass drivers, a 2.75" midrange driver and a 1" soft dome tweeter. Retail for around the $900 mark - so pretty cheap for what youre actually getting (8-speakers and crossovers) - they make a quad 8" version too.

Not sure who carries Hertz in the Edmonton area, but I'll ask Pat from our office who does - I'll let you know - they are definatley worth checking out.

yah to the last few people who posted.. thats exactly it... im not looking for some amazing audiophile setup, but i don't want it to be MA Audio quality... kinda like the harman kardon's of home stereo - the best bang for your serious dollar.
