^^this is true, even on deck power they are pretty loud and sound pretty good too. I remember doing a friends car a couple of years ago with a pair of 6x9 pioneer tri-axials and 6.5 co-ax's in the doors powered by the deck initially with good results. Later we added one little Pioneer 30x4 amp and it rocked...relatively speaking.

it's in a mustang.. and personally I think coax's sound like crap compared to component sets :/ of course they can get loud, but it just doesn't sound that great.

My buddy runs the old JBL Power series 6.5" coaxials in his GTI and they get lound and sound good also. http://www.carreview.com/PRD_97679_1805crx.aspx

Sorry, i have to disagree with the co-axial hater, the JBL power series co-ax's i have in my car right now are excellent sounding and get damn loud. I'll put them up against any comparably priced components in a proper install anyday( I have that's why I know). How bad can edge driven titanium domes be... especially from JBL.

I've just never come across a co-ax with good bass response with quality highs... they seem to distort long before component sets do in my past experience (with amps, not powered from a deck)

miglet, you should take some time to maybe listen to the JL Audio XR650CXI coaxials. They are basically a component set and passive x-over..just mounted as a coax. They sound quite good. They also offer adjustable tweeter control as well as an adjustment for midrange presence.
