that could be do to cost, some of these horns are very pricey, also not every vehicle will fit a horn, and lots of people dont want to **** around with something that they are not familiar with, and just from listening to people in the industry and at shows not alot of people state how "easy" it is to tweek these things, as a matter of fact almost everyone states that its very hard to get them to sound right without tons of eq'ing and very carefull placement. i think if you are an adventurous person and want to try something diffent. rock and roll. try the horns. ask lots of questions, check out usd audios web page on how to install them, and doont rush anything.

hearsay. I wonder how many of those people actually have used horns. I've had 4 sets and when installed properly (which is really easy - horizontal, same height, far back and as wide as possible) they have sounded more dynamic that any of the high end speaker sets that I had over the years. Horns are actually much easier to install than conventional midranges and tweeters as there is a lot less aiming to be considered with horns. By the way, I've never had an EQ in my car.

Get a good quality set of horns, install them how they should be (very easy) and don't listen to the hearsay and myths of horns. EXPERIENCE THEM FOR YOURSELF!!!

Horns have over time gotten a very bad rap. The biggest problem has been that they are, for the most part, NEVER installed right. So they sound off sonically. At that point, most decide to use the biggest band-aid they can find to solve this problem....... a nice big mother of an EQ. Thus the second myth of requiring a boatload of EQ-ing to make horns sound good.. Lastly, not all horns are massive and requiring a lot of space to install. So having a huge amount of space under your dash is not ALWAYS the most important consideration. Considering what I’ve seen people do with some very large kick-panel installed, horns are not as imposing as one thinks.

Ok, what’s my personal experience with horns??? I personally have NEVER installed a set of horns in my own car. BUT.......... but I have listened to quite a few sets over the years now. Most recently (JAN 2005) I listened to a set in a Porsche off a full tube amplifier with almost no EQ-ing what-so-ever. If I remember rite, midbass driver in the kick panels (as PLD's are more critical in the lower frequencies). I was floored as the sonic experience was unbelievable. It wasn’t the best vehicle I have EVER heard, but it was pretty amazing. Once you have heard a set of horns installed properly and tuned, you may cross to the dark side and never come back.

Horns to me are in principle like doing a full dash reconstruct. It's not for everyone. They are for those who are committed to audio and looking for something special. They are not impossibly hard to install, but you do have to do it right. From an installation point of view, compared to gutting out your kick panels and doing the whole listening/aiming, then building and finishing kick panel pods, horns can be relatively easy to install. So with regards to anyone telling you that horns are junk/garbage/installation nitemare/etc, let them believe that bunk. But because of what I have heard/experienced with regards to horns in a car environment, I think those kinds of statements are pretty close minded.

I think it's important to provide accurate information to any consumer about any type of audio component. Not myths. I’d back up any manufacturer on the horn issue with regards to how they perform when installed right.

I think horns were treated as a fad a while back and they were the 'hot ticket' in IASCA. As all fads it lost its grip over time (for no good reason other than there was a newer fad).

It isnt that the horns were or are inferior, it just is hard to find them these days (yesterdays news).

I do think horns should be considered by everyone but you have to hear them to put them on your short list and they just arent in a lot of dealers showrooms.

well, if you're going for something like an IASCA Sq winning vehicle, horns are a good step towards winning, but they are no easy plug and play setup. although, i expect that there will eventually be a move towards a braxial setup, much like jason winslow is doing now.

for those that don't know, jason winslow is a member of team Image Dynamics and competed using i believe neodynium horns for quite sometime, but he is actually switching to a braxial setup for this sq season.
