On another note, I found that my ignition improved when I installed my monster cap
got more power, but I think my wires were going anyways, so the cap just provided a tiny push to keep the juice flowing.

Don't caps also help to reduce A/C noise from an electrical system. Thats one reason I have always used them.
I think the DC noise filtration is a fine justification for a cap, they do have value they are just not silver bullets to many of the problems they are used to solve.
