which EQ?

I currently have a sony CDX-C90 hu, and a Phoenix Gold EQ215ix eq. I am considering purchasing a sony XDP-210 eq to replace the PG eq (can't afford a 4000x), but I am not really sure whether that would be a step up or a step down. I really like the fact that the 210 works in conjunction with my hu, and that it can run optical rather then using high end expensive interconnects. However, I am a little leary about the fact that it says that it has 18 bands for the front, does this just mean exactly what it says, or does it have seperate L and R bands like my current EQ?
Basically I am looking for opinions as to whether I should grab a 210, or stick with what I have?
Any comments anyone?

stick with what you have..
I have used the 210 and 4000. The EQ in the 210 is mono bands yes.. Its not stereo like the 215. Also the DA's and op amps in the c90 are better then the 210 so it would be a step down.

I have buddy with a DQT Audio control piece, 30 bands left and right. It was good enough for me to win Worlds with. Smokein' price...I changed from a PG-232 and PG-215 there was a hugh difference in sound...digital baby!

The dqt looks like a really nice eq, but what I was really trying to acomplish is to utilize the aux input on my deck, and to do so I need to complete the bus loop. A seperate aux input device for my hu runs at around $100 u.s., so that is where I started thinking that if i could get something to replace my line driver and current eq I might be able to come out with spending almost the same amount...make my system a little simpler, and possibly raise the sq by keeping it digital as far as possible. (less noise, less conversion) I will have to do some more thinking on this one, I need new amps and subs too, so I have to figure the best way to utilize my money (ha, like that is very difficult).
I love this hobby, it's like a giant snowball!

Hmm, sounds like a collection of some nice components, and a nice system .
If you want to keep it simpler, change the HU to a unit with lower impedance, higher voltage output(8V), and a built in DSP.
Trade-in or sell the older equipment, that should bring you close to what you had in mind financialy, and will improve the SQ of your system considerably for the meager investment.

Difficulty there is that I won't part with my HU. In my opinion, with my electronic background, you'd be hard pressed to beat the quality components in the c90 (specifically the dual 20bit burr brown chips), unless price is no object of course. I am actually considering making my own optical d/a converter with the same 20bit bb chips, then I can run my optical to the rear. But that still doesn't solve my aux input problem....maybe if i pick up a cheap, even damaged sony changer which uses the ibus, as long as it completes the loop and activates the aux inputs? maybe
