yeah +/-3 is realistic in real time. My concern was that you wanted to be overall 'flat'. I've never seen a car sound decent that was EQ'd flat.
I think when he says flat he means "smooth". I've heard people say this before, but they just means there are no major +/- in the spectrum.
Either that or he wanted to EQ flat so the results of the test are easy to recognize.
