I definitely think you should get a new deck... And sell the old one to me for cheap
. When we're both done we can compare your $4000 system with my ultra-budget SQ and see if it was worth it (i'll try not to get my *** handed to me
). Looks like a good deal on those eq's though.

I think perhaps a clarification is required when someone says "flat RTA response". I wouldn't think they would mean a flat line. I would HOPE they mean a smooth curve. Smoothness is what you want between bands. Not something that looks like a city skyline or mountain range.
A 1/3 octave EQ is a nice tuning piece to have but isn't essential to win or have a well-placing car. I went EQ-less in my Avenger and got 1st and 2nds with it whenever I competed. But, I did have an all-active system which really helps.

I believe it was the my Saturn we tuned to pretty much perfectly flat. It was pretty easy with the help of the PPI deq 230. I wish I had another face plate for the eq that I could have just swapped with it for my sq settings so I didn't have to play with the setting all the time. But if I remember right, I just switched the switch to "default" eq and ran it with no eq for sq and it still scored pretty high.
Wow, good price on those EQs! Should be able to do some pretty serious tweaking with those bad boys.
SUX2BU is right, you dont always need an EQ to have a great sounding system.. Some of the major RTA problems can be corrected by adjusting crossover points and gain. 1/3 octave EQs will give you great control over the spectrum. Tuning with them will be quite a task though.. Good luck!

Sometimes ir's not even good to talk to competitors that have been there as RTA is no longer a part of SQ comps unless you compete in Rookie or the very unlikely event that two cars tie overall, then in SQ, then in install, then it would go to RTA.
So don't tune for a flat curve, tune strictly for SQ.

Well i am going to start by tuning to the flatest RTA curve i can get then use that is a base line for more tweeking with the EQ's, gains, and XO points. Would a flat RTA be a good start point? Anyways this won't happen for prolly another week any way because i have started a complete tear down of the cab of my truck. I think i am going overboard. I am going to start with taking EVERYTHING out. Like every thing, dash, seats, panles, even all the wiring. Then i will run new wiring and put the sound deadner over all of it.
Anyone got some great deals on deadner?? I want to do 2 layers on the back wall, fire wall, doors and floor, then something for the roof. On all the smaller things like the A-pillars i want to put some spray on stuff. About 100sqft should do it.
Thanks again guys!

First start with the eq flat, but not with a flat measured curve. Set crossover frequencies first then the gains then the eq. You might need to reset the gains after eq'ing but usually not.
DO NOT dynamat over your wires, dynamat first then run wires. Not only will it make it almost impossible to change the wiring ever again, but it will allow air pockets between the deadener and the sheet metal, which dramatically reduces it's effectiveness.
For the best value (not the lowest price which usually is the worst value) I would visit www.b-quiet.com they have very good product that will actually do the job and still be very reasonably priced, also I think that the CCA group buy code is still active so you will get a bit of a break there.
