Hi, I was looking to get an amp to power that particular sub. It's rated at 500 watts RMS and I'd be playing a wide variety of music, especially stuff like the chili peppers. I want to be able to get a lot of flea's bass coming through the sub as well as the kick drum. An amp i found so far is the Rockford Fosgate Power T5001BD monoblock but with other experience with that amp it hasn't produced as wide a range as I would hope...keep in mind though that this was through a stock deck and my head unit is a new panasonic. Any input is appreciated! thanks!

 

How much are you looking to spend?
New or Used?
Is your sub a dual 2 or dual 4?

Alpine pdx 1.600 seems like a real winner, nice and compact, very efficient and produces good power, but not cheap.

Other than that, pretty much all of the manufacturers make AT LEAST one amp in the 400-600 rms bracket, with most of the big names having several choices.

 

Your choice of amp is going to be dependent on two things. The impedence of the sub as mentioned above (dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm) and your budget.

Problems not with the amp, more than likely its the sub enclosure.

 

I thought kickdrum and fleas bass were more of a midbass issue than sub?......are you looking for bass that caves your chest in, or bass that rattles your bowels?

I don't think the amp was at fault here.

 

The sub is dual 4's and id be lookin to spend around 200 from the ones ive seen on ebay but I'm just looking to know more in depth about my situation so anything will do to get an idea. yes fleas bass could be more of a midrange issue but you can tell when listening that it has potential in a low range as well. 400 hz or less covers most of the bass guitar on the neck. is there some way i can still feel those notes vibrating through the car but having the same clarity through my sub? that rockford amp i posted a link to earlier only goes up to 235 hz or so but in a lot of songs it just takes care of really low notes and when a higher note comes in it ignores it completely. perfect example of this is T.I's top back..check it out on youtube or something. im just looking for some kind of consistency in that department! thanks guys!

 

I said midbass, not midrange.....I stand behind what i said, if I'm guessing right about your situation, you need to look at a proper sub and box (as others have said) and some kick **** midBASS which is tough to get out of a subwoofer.....you say the sub amp "ONLY" goes up to 235Hz, I think you have a misconception as to the use of a subwoofer (or i do)

 

Yea anything beyond 100hz is a midbass speakers gig, not a subs. Even 100hz on a sub sounds like poo.
