24 Bit DAC

I've never owned a HU with 24 Bit DAC. Does it make that much of a difference?

What makes a bigger difference is having a head unit with optical output, and a processor that will do whatever you need with 24 bit burr-brown dac's...

I honestly don't hear it...and this is in my house. I have a new Denon 24 bit dvd/cd player with optical to my receiver, so out of curiosity I hooked up an old(16 years old, I found it the other day, I forgot I even had it!) JVC 1bit cd player via analog cables to the cd input. Switching back and forth using the same cd, I have 2 copies of some, I have to say, there is no audible difference to me. I even used the kids again just to see if it was my older ears...and again, they could not tell which was playing. Is there a difference? I'm sure it is measurable, and some of you may be able to discern it, but I can't. My feeling is if I can't in a house with a 17 year old player, I'm pretty sure it's worthless to me in a car! Just my personal experience.

Wierd, that was one of my favorite things to demo to a customer. I used a Denon DCM340 multi bit player vs. a Technics single bit cd player both wired using a standard rca cable to the same Denon amplifier and using identical copies of the same cd so as to be able to switch back and forth in real time. There was a huge difference in tonal response for me and my customers.

Multi bit is nice provided the balance of the system is going to be up to par with it.

I did the same thing in my previous truck switching between the NAK CD700 and the 1bit cd changer, they both sounded the same to me.

any chance it was just the levels were different, I did notice a level difference, which there usually isn't in home equipment, but seeing as one player was 16-17 years old?? Anyway, like I said, these were my findings, and maybe I'm not as critical a listener as some of you.

i find that most people who say they hear a difference with head units, usually only say that after they have dumped a bunch of money on a new head unit with the "fabulous new flux capacitor". i thinks its justification for the money they spent. and since its completely listerner dependant, know one can tell you different. just like i can here the difference between speaker wire..." ya that tweeter......... i can here that you are using 14awg monster wire. way more sound, and alot crisper!!!! get the point.
